The brake pedal on the car is quite long making it difficult to heel and toe while racing. We've got 310mm Megane Brembos, Hi-Tech discs and CarboTech XP8 pads. Copper piping throughout as well.

Is there anything we can do to make the "bite point" higher up? Don't have a huge deal of confidence in the brakes at the moment.

Standard MC and Dot 4. Will change to 5.1 if we have to do any work on the brakes to sort the pedal.

Bled thoroughly.

I changed the standard master cylinder for a bigger one, around 25mm. Made the world of difference to the pedal travel/feel with my AP calipers.

Do you have any details on which one you got and the work involved to fit it?

Cheers WP, you're the best Thumbs up Razz

Which cars did the 25.4mm MC come from?

I couldn't find a lot of info when I was looking for a bigger one. Took HOURS of trawling foreign parts sites and stuff to try and find pictures.

As it was, i literally had to go by a picture and hope for the best.

I managed to get it right though! Its off a VW Transporter of all things! The only difference when it comes to fitting, is that the ports are on the opposite side of the cylinder to the standard one. So i just fitted a couple of little extenders to reach my current pipes.

I think i also had to warm the reservoir and mould that out of the way of one of the fittings, but it was just a hot air gun and a push that sorted it. That's just a problem caused by the ports coming out underneath the reservoir rather than the standard position.

Fits perfectly onto the servo, exactly the same fitment as the standard on in that respect.

Thanks very much! No idea how you found that :p

Something like this should be ok? http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Master-Cylinder-T4-19603-No-ABS-ITT-Calipers-7D0611019A_act_shop.product_pID_143248615.htm

Il have a look and see if ive got a part number on mine in a minute. As said though, mine only has 2 ports, like the standard 306 one only has 2 ports also. Saves having to block any up.

And whaen I said it took HOURS of searching, that pretty much meant DAYS!

The main concern apart from fitting to the servo was the reservoir mounting holes. Where the fluid goes in. A lot of them have a bigger gap there

This is the one you want.

http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Master-Cylinder-With-ABS-ITT-Calipers-T4-01-96-03-7D0611019B_act_shop.product_pID_143250031.htm

Its actually the next one on from what you listed. Just got a B at the end of the number rather than an A!

That's the part number that is on the one I use.

excellent thread, I've always thought my 330s gave me a lot more pedal travel, the things makes me go dizzy it stops so well but I've always thought I seemed to be have to press the pedal pretty hard

I'll get one of those MCs and do a small thread on how to fit it, just for future reference.

This was what I mean by the brake pipes.

I had to get this ready pretty sharpish, otherwise I would have put a full length of new pipe in.

You can see how close the unions are to the reservoir. But as I said before, with a bit of heat they will clear fine.

Ive now moved to a bias pedal box, so im hoping that will end up with a good pedal like this bigger cylinder did before!

you would have to press harder with a bigger MC, but it wont move quite so far.

Did it need to have the tie wrap around it or is that just a precaution?

Precautionary. The stuff I do occasionally has unbelievably bouncy and rough tracks in places with hard suspension. Didn't want the chance of it riding up in any way.

Even though the pin that goes through should hold it in place regardless.
