Think it was the earlier type produced flywheels that wouldn't work with the 6 starter motor, also it was the earlier ones that took damage on the teeth

depends how much damage has been done to the surface. These flywheels seem to be very poor quality.

What are peoples opinions on these then? I've seen a number of people that say they take a hiding and warp pretty easy. I'm going to high boost and track my car so I think I might be better off just getting the standard one lightened and balanced? Or do I just stay standard??

Ive had one on a lightly tuned engine for over 10000miles on a track car and is one of the best bolt on upgrades ive used, never had any problems with them.

Those 2 flywheels are Donald Ducked. They need to be skimmed to get a flat surface. They also need to be skimmed properly (entire face) to ensure clamping force is maintained on the clutch.

I used one for 80,000 miles on my 6 before it got rear ended/written off.

Apparently it did have heatspots when it was stripped down but I never had any issues with it, or damage to teeth or anything

But I guess its a case of how many miles they can do before becoming dangerously warped....

Imo not really worth the £260 they cost brand new anyway.......so if you're gonna do it, buying second hand is the best way imo

Ive fitted used ones looking same if not worse with no faults at all. And the 2 that I took off both drove great before removal.

its a case of fitting something as it is and expecting it to work well, or fixing it and fitting it as it is meant to be. There is no denying the fact that these flywheels suffer terrible from the heat spots. the heat spots them selves are the issue, the material is no longer a flat surface and it will eat into your clutch eventually, it might even start to cause clutch 'judder', the issue is that they will just get worse and worse...

Mine was a recent generation and the teeth are f**ked. Good upgrade but it seems it's the luck of the draw as to whether you get a crappy one or not

If anyone has any issues whatsoever with a billet steel lightweight flywheel supplied by me, please don't hesitate to contact me, and I will take your issues up with the manufacturer.

Hot-spots are normal -any grade of steel will suffer discolouration with heat saturation, as brake discs, exhausts etc do.

Hot-spots do not mean the flywheel isn't flat and needs to be skimmed.

These will show hot-spots more so than standard flywheels, due to the reduced thermal mass - I.e. because they are lighter, they will heat up more quickly.

Regards
Rich
