I found this thread by accident, I've had my suspension apart trying to find a massive clunk from both sides and I'm pretty sure this must be the problem I have with mine. Virtually everything is brand new and I have Bilstein B8s |

I also have a massive clunk. Do your B8's sit above the bottom of the clamp? ________________________________________ Red Rallye - Rolling "restoration"Wishbone Polybushes available |

Bloody hell I have this issue too. The car is now 2 inches higher than it was and the strut really doesn't feel secure in the hub.It sits around 15mm above the bottom of the hub. |

I think 15mm is enough to raise the car at least 30mm.I'm going to measure my struts and see what the difference is. |

The plot thickens. The measurements from the locator lip to the spring seat are actually the same as the standard units. It still doesn't sit in the hub properly though. |

yeah, so the length of the shock is wrong. It should be longer, so that the clamp actually clamps it, rather than nipping the end________________________________________ Red Rallye - Rolling "restoration"Wishbone Polybushes available |

Yep true, however it wouldn't alter the height of the car which is currently my biggest issue. |

No, you're right. I thought the locator tab was wrong, but I'm not prepared to go grinding my shocks________________________________________ Red Rallye - Rolling "restoration"Wishbone Polybushes available |

Just a random thought. I'm not an engineer so forgive me if this seems stupid.Could it be that the shocks or springs are too stiff/highly rated. Ie can you bounce the front end of the car by hand? What I mean is are they the wrong part and designed for more weight over the front? Sorry if that's a ridiculous suggestion. ________________________________________ Turned 40 and in true cliched fashion buying one of the cars of my teenage dreams! |

Not a ridiculous question mate. If you for say the hdi springs I believe the car would sit lower as the hdi engine isn't as heavy so the spring rates will represent that. However my springs and shocks are both gti parts. |

Have you got the shocks mixed up left/right etc as the small locator tabs are offset to each other depending if they are the left or right one. IIRC they should face slightly towards the front of the car...i could be completely wrong sorry but im sure if the tabs arnt in it dosnt sit right.________________________________________ "Gotta Love The 6"According to my wife i think the 6 is the fastest car in the world, perhaps she is right LoL ! |

Its more a case of the shock not sitting far enough into the hub so you would have the same issue regardless of which way around they are. The only cure for this really is for Bilstein to replace them with correct length shocks! |

I'm struggling to follow what's going on here, are you saying your dampers measure 45mm from the locating lug/seat to the end of the damper? Or is it 30mm?________________________________________ www.bridgecraftmotorsport.co.uk |

If it's to be believed that the B4's actually sit higher than standard shocks, then the ride height issue won't be solved with the shocks being the correct length and therefore, the tabs are in the correct location.By correct length, allanallen, we mean that the bottom of the shocker sits flush to the bottom of the bracket on the hub. Currently, this is 15mm inside the clamp, which cannot be right. ________________________________________ Red Rallye - Rolling "restoration"Wishbone Polybushes available |

It also still begs the question what about the b4s make the car sit higher? |
