I recently changed me exhaust and decat on my gti 6 but noticed it starts smoking when warm
Got me bit worried as I've just put a a new head on
Did a quick compression test with throttle closed and they were all on the 50 psi mark
I'm sure that's not good
Car runs good no lose in power just smokes when warm
Shall I be worried

Mine does similar but smokes a little when cold and when i give it some but then i am getting quite abit oil into my inlet through the breather. Time for an oil catch than i think. Take you filter off and see if there is much oil there

A healthy engine should be somewhere around 190-200psi. Yes

Also, a compression test should be done with the throttle fully open to allow maximum air to intake.

Probably worn bores /rings / pistons. Common on these engines.

Leak down test would be better.

Are they? I didn't think worn bores were particularly common...

Yes, that was my feeling too.

As long as they are looked after via regular oil changes and correct warming up from cold etc, they seem to go on forever. Yes

My engine is coming up for 190k, although it still makes power, one of my cylinders is a fair bit down, after a good hard run my dipstick pops out, when i previously had a catch tank there was ALOT of vapour coming out of the vent and the tank would collect nearly half a litre of oil after say an hours worth of hard driving, i now have my breathers plumbed back in as normal as the the cabin would be smelling of oil when the engine was hot.
If your compression is down it could well be that you have excessive bore wear/worn rings which in turn will pressurise the crankcase/sump therefore blow through into your throttle body. I would do another compression test but this time with throttle wide open and then do a leak down test. The leakdown will give you some obvious clues as to why you are down on compression.
Out of curiousity did you replace the head because it had been badly over heated, if so, excessive heat can cause the piston rings to lose their tension and hence not seal properly and cause the above

The smoke is blue
I replaced the head because it was smoking blue I seen the valves from the head which has excessive wear on them from the guides my engineer suggested another gti6 Head which had good guides in replaced the valves and stem seals skimmed pressure tested
I checked bores when head was off didn't show Any signs off excessive wear

Although you might not have felt a wear ridge at the top of the bore they could be out of round further down on the thrust face. Try pulling the breather from the cam cover to see if theres excess vapour, seriously though, leakdown test is the way to go.

Not done a leak down test before is it just a little oil in bore and do pressure test as normal with throttle open
I do have a spare block with 92000miles is there any way ov checking rings incase I do swap blocks over
Some1 timed it up wrong and bent all the inlet valves
Unless some has a known good bottom end
