Hi All,

new to 306 Pugs (but not motorsport) and need a steer please. Recently aquired Rallye 306 runs v. cool. Tested thermostat and all seems OK - any ideas please? I did wonder if there was more than one spec for the temp sender.
Thanks,
Mikedsp

Mine runs around 80oC or just slightly lower when driving normal and raises to around 90oC when im giving it some for a long period of time. Oil doesnt get too high either but that could be down to my oil cooler.

just getting onto the clock, so 70 deg (ish), rising a bit if driven fast for a while to 75 / 80 deg Previous owner said it gets up to 90ish if stuck in traffic when fans cut in. I would just expect it to run a bit warmer? Oil temp gets to 1/3 way up clock so engine is def getting warmish. Maybe stat is not closing fully.

The blue temp sensor could be up the spout or the stat is opening to early. Fans cut in low speed or high at 90?

Yep, agreed.

I had a dodgy thermostat years ago, which made the engine run at 70c when I was moving. It was a cheapo factors one, I replaced it with a Pug one and it's fine 5 years later. Smile

All good stuff - many thanks. I'll change the stat for starters and see what happens.

Also - how on earth do you get the plastic connector out of the stat housing to make it easier to get at the stat. I took the clip off and used LOTS of wellie on the hose and it didn't even look like budging. Didn't want to break it so just left it on. Cheers, Mike dsp

A few degrees won't make a difference but the ECU uses the coolant temperature to decide cold running mixture enrichment so significant over-cooling will affect fuel consumption.

The stat is an 83c one, so sitting at 80ish on the gauge is about spot on. Smile

Good temperature. I'd be inclined to run it upto 97 degrees and check the fans work etc.
