Bit of advice. What have you supercharged people done to mount the rad when removing the radiator frame? Reused the holes in which the frame mounted?

I'm having continual problems with the radiator lower hose working it's way out. Just looking for possible causes. Feels like the hose doesn't quote have enough pull.

I just put the rad back in its holes as its the rad that holds the fans/cowling in place.

The bottom hose is a total c**t unless its new. Mine popped off 1st drive. I found if you put a large flat blade screwdriver through the front bumper grill and get a mate to put some pressure on it. Then use some mole grips or large pliers and really push home the bottom hose.

Doing it this way saves having to take the sodding bumper off again.

Even after wire brushing the metal part of the lower hose to make it easier it was still an arse. Keep on it or put a new lower hose on Thumbs up

But yes it does seem like the lower hose just needs to be a tad longer.

Oh and take the lower hose out of the plastic chassis clamps behind the osf wheel while connecting it. It has a little more give this way.

Cheers.

yes I mean exactly that, it pops out the rad.

was fine for a few weeks and a couple hundred miles, then popped out doing 60 on a busy road.

I did the flat blade driver trick before, and had wire brushed the end, but have my suspicions that the o ring is not seating. I can really lever it in, but then like tonight it was fine for like 30 mins then just started dribbling with no explanation. What a s**t design! Whats wrong with a jubilee??

Worried that I cant really get my charger exit pipe away from just touching the rad, but then it worked fine for ages before this.

gonna get the car moved by van to the new house then fix it as I dont trust it not to pop.

Why not convert to a 205 rad and have proper pipe work then run a separate small header tank on the bulk head

My charger exit pipe is very close to. I will change the set up one day and re route the pipes as said above.

You could always put a ph2 rad and pipe on it as its twist fit and the work better for a cheaper alternative.

You can't see it very well from my pics. Just pulled them off my project thread.

You can see how the 205 has normal outlets on the rad.

You will need to make your own pipe work ideally but can be done nice and tidy with some thought.
If you purchased from bbm a205 gti6 thermostat adaptor you'll get rid of the clip on style there. Samco sell non kink water pipe work in 32mm like you can see in my pic so that'll sort the top hose.
Bottom hose you'll probably have to get a couple of 90 degree ones like in my pic and run a piece of tube down the inner wing. Maybe the 205 one will work but I'm not sure.

You can see in my parts pic the two header tanks. The left one is my breather for dry sump but the right one is a small header tank and does the job well. Can get nice alloy one from eBay easily.

Only problem with this is there is not enough room in the engine bay to put a header tank in for us people that still have a battery in the engine bay. Sad

One of these allows the outlet of a 205 8v engine bolt too a 306 thermostat housing

Thanks ash, that fills in the blanks for pipe routing. That expansion outlet goes where? Gti rad has a 3rd hose, cant see that on that rad?

could be just the ticket for me to have faith to cane it relentlessly. Dont mind spending dollars to get a good solution. I recall seeing spikys rover expansion tank..

The red pipe is the self bleed and goes from top of the header tank and to the rad.
You can't see it in the pic of the rad in its box very well but it's at the bottom right of the pic

Yeah spiky had 205 rad and a header tank as all gti6 205's will have.

Run a 1L header tank and/or stick the battery in the boot. Another bonus by taking 10kg off the front wheels!

If you look at my avatar pic you can see in my v6 I had an expansion tank on the bulkhead with battery still in the original place. The ecu was relocated so the box had been trimmed but it wasn't a particularly small expansion tank so I'm sure it could be done if you found the right one.

Simon, it will work ok but you'll need a new hose. Yes

The way to do it is take the front bumper off for easy access and then with a nice new hose, put some Vaseline around the o-ring and then push the pipe in. It will glide in really easy and fit with a snug 'pop', then fit the clip. No more problem. Smile

It might come to a new hose. I have two if i recall, so perhaps I have a spare seal to try. Just fed up of it atm, the rest of the car is spot on but I don't trust that hose one little bit!! A new pipe looks to be 30 quid so that's a good back-up plan. Tempting to fit a jubilee around it Ninja

In all honesty I need to take it apart and have a proper look what's going on. I've resigned myself to using a car transporter to move it to the new house for now and will fix it later.

FWIW the supercharger arrangement is a CG cars setup, lifted from my mate's xsara VTS when we stripped it. The outlet pipe is just touching the radiator (probably had more room on the Xsara), but this didn't cause any problems for a couple hundred miles of absolute caning (it's not an A to B car as you can imagine). Might be able to just trim some excess plastic off the rad to alleviate this. Please also remember my LHS intercooler pipe goes above the rad connector, not underneath, but it's not touching anything here.
