I've been getting an oil patch on my drive, at first I thought it might be my pas fluid as that was nearly empty. I noticed today that while reversing to park there were several oil patches from where I stopped to where I parked. Could my gearbox be on its way oit? Wink

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What colour was the oil? could be anything from anywhere lol, can get engine oil leaks from a lot of places, power steering rams are common for leaking and leaving small puddles when sat for a while and driveshaft seals are common from gearboxes.

Does the oil smell completely awful? If so, it's gearbox oil. If not, then it'll either be engine oil or PAS fluid. Yes

Get a large section of carboard under the front to easily pinpoint the colour, make it easier for you to smell and locate.

Finally had a bit of dry weather and found the leak, it's the power steering cooling pipe. ( I'm 90% sure!) So it's not too bad! Got a vts rack to put on next month, am i right in thinking that i can make do till then? Then just bin the cooling pipe when i replace the rack?

Thanks for your help guys Thumbs up

A lot of people have done away with the cooling pipe and not noticed any negative effects.

I can't remember exactly but I'm sure you can do this for free, at the worse you need a tiny length of hose.

I've got a new steering rack, pipes and reservoir to put in though, thought it would be easier to do it then?

It's quite an easy job mate, but if your busy u may aswell do it with the new reservoir.
