Do I need to balance the flywheel before fitting? It's coming off of another engine where it was presumably running ok but just wanted to check if I needed to rebalance it before fitting it to my own engine?

Who made the flywheel? If it's a Rich W flywheel then no, it will be fine.

On a road car no, But for anything else then yes as you will be surprised how much of a difference it makes, but then you could do the complete engine so catch 22

It would be going on to the race car with a standard engine?

Flywheel, clutch kit and crank should really be bolted together and balanced as a pair. They want marking once done do they go back together in exactly the same orientation they were balanced in. Depending on what rpm you want to use it may be uneccessary.

Currently just completely standard so running to redline (7k?). I want to do more engine work in future so I was thinking it would make sense to get it balanced then instead? It came out of a standard Rallye so don't think it should be a problem?

It should be fine, the flywheels are balanced at manufacture but in high revving engines balance becomes more of an issue.
