Cheers mate just seems like an idea to get done at the same time the straight cut gears go in. no need to use 6th until 140mph anyways so thought this should give a top speed of approx 190?

Would you really want to do 190 in a 306 though? LOL

To be fair i'd like a longer 6th anyway,
If you could cruise at 3.5k at 90mph rather than 4.1 ish it would be awesome

Yes I'd do 190mph why not! not for extended period but it would certainly be an amusing tale to tell!

Even with the amount if power we have I think you would need a bloody long road to be able to get to 190! What are our tyres rated to, the fastest iv been in Richs car was 155 and the car was all over the place, wipers were over an inch away from the windscreen and was scared they would snap off

I think some of the high boost boys maxxed out the gearbox on the autobahn. It was 163 from what I remember.

Ross has done it in his high boost... With the super high boost reving to 8250 the top speed is obviously higher, I'm hoping with the dimma being so wide and with better aerodynamics (more down force), wider wheels etc I will be a bit more brave and see what I can get out of it

I just want to change the 6th so it's dual purpose, a toy and an every day commuter. Best of both worlds

So changing 6th for a HDI 5th. How easy would this be? I've never had a gear box apart before but am willing to try anything (well within reason LOL). Would it just be a case of whipping the end case off the box and swapping the gear or am I being simple and it's much more difficult?

You'll need gear pullers and new bearings mate it's worth it if you have a spare box to play with?

Could get my hands on gear pullers. I do have a spare box which I've just tarted up to go in with the new engine but that's in two weeks so I doubt I'll have time to get it done before then.

Cheers guys

You don't need boost to get to the max No I have hit the indicated max on the autobahn in the rallye when it was standard Yes

Also the car was perfectly stable at these speeds, it was cruising along quite nicely, certainly no problems with rattling or bits falling off Smile

Trust me I think 500bhp would see 180 odd though 190 maybe need more than 500bhp. for cruising I think this conversion would be well worth the extra work to fit!

You've managed to hit the limiter in 6th with it n/a? - I've had 136mph indicated on my tomtom but the needle was off the clocks past 140 at the time in mine which is n/a.

I'm not convinced even with 500bhp a 306 would do above 180mph, i reckon the coefficent of drag would be too much and the gearbox would crap itself. Please proove me wrong. Yes Laugh

We had a 205 hit 156mph (limiter on the ecu) - it would happily go past if it revved further I would have thought.

Was there something wrong with his car?? I seen 150 in my low boost and that was still pulling strong and felt very stable and comfortable.

The big issue with this is wheel balancing IMO. Ive done 135 in mine at Coombe before and it was s**t because the car was shaking all over the place but that was on clones which no one around here seems to be bothered to do properly. On the turinis which have been balanced well, it feels much more stable.

Nope nothing wring at all with the car... Just the driver and the screaming girlfriend I had in the passenger seat lol trying to keep the car in one lane at 155 was hard enough and then the wiper arms lifted off the screen and I just chickened out, notsure what the tyres are rated to either so just for that matter I wouldn't like to try my luck! Iv taken my bmw to 155 and it as steady as a rock but then again it has wider tyres and weighs a lot more

Haha yeah screaming passengers is annoying and distracting.

Ive heard alot of people have had issues with clones but a good garage should be able to do them fine, mine were always ok

I've had various d-turbos and hdi's over the years and I'd think the hdi gearing may be a little high for a petrol engine however I remember my 1.9 d-turbos all did 3000rpm at 80mph which would be a better setup for a 6 engine I think.

I've had my stripped and lightened low boost off the clock before but never pushed it much past that. However I know the red rallye stilly had that's gone to Sweden was maxed on the autobahn on the way there and claimed he hit the limiter in 6th Wink. Was similar spec to mine weight wise.

Mine is in a similar position. Though to be fair I haven't monitored where my revs are but I suspect there high up like the original post - but I always get poor mileage.

I've purchased a used Lambda off ebay (from somebody on this forum) - I haven't fitted it yet but hope to do so shortly.

I've got to drive from Sheffield to Lytham St Annes at the weekend so hopefully can do it before then and see the benefits on that drive.

Wouldn't ever fit a used lambda to be honest you have no idea if it actually works or not. My supercharged 6 does easily over 400 miles to a tank on a run on Vpower.
