Managed to pick myself a new project today, was local, stupidly cheap and seemed too good to say no to!

No idea what the plans for it are yet so will see how it pans out!!

Phase 1.5 should have grey interior/exterior plastics and grey seats. Best 1s to have IMO, they seem to rust drastically less than later cars Wink

Haven't found any rust yet, hasn't gone in the normal places anyway, was apparently dry stored for ten years, then only driven 6 months of the year by an older couple.
It has its issues though, bottom end knock, was unfortunately a cat C in 2004 where it got hit in the back, panel gaps are all perfect though so seems to have been a very good repair.

Mileage is 57k with a fair bit of paperwork to verify.

Best bit though, the price was £180! And only cost me £30 in diesel to go an get it! The owner wasn't the sharpest knife in the draw, he had it advertised for £400 but didn't mention the Cat C write off so got him down to £180.

I was gutted to find out it was a write off as obviously now it will never be worth half as much as a similar condition one! But for £180 who gives a s**t!!

That's an absolute bargain at that price. I wouldn't be that worried that it being a cat 'c' will devalue it that much, if you've got plenty of history with it and there is no evidence of any damage it'll still be worth more than other examples with no history and no 'cat' markers.

I've seen plenty that have blatantly had accidents but have no markers against them. I think as they got older and parts were once pennies people fixed them on the cheap rather than claim. Most will have had at least a bump by now but at least yours will have been repaired properly.

Properly sorted out etc. with warranted low miles will still be worth a lot more than 180! If you fixed it up and drove and enjoyed it for a while you're pretty much guaranteed to make money or break even.

Bargain! As you say though with a cat c it's a bit of a keeper rather than a collectors item. In 2004 gtis were worth absolutely nothing so two smashed light lenses could have written it off!

No rust etc, its probably worth at least 10 times what you paid for it with that mileage.
    Great find, what a bargain.
