Hello all

Question about filling the gti with fuel, from what I can gather they have a 60 litre fuel tank and when the fuel light comes on there is about 6 litres left in the tank but the last few times I went to fill the car up it started to click off at 40 litres and I gave up at around 42 litres trying to fill it, is this a common problem or do I just have something like a dodgy fuel gauge

Thanks

I put around 45 litres in each time and it shows just over 3/4 of a tank and that's filling from just before or just on the red light

When it clicks and stops you filling you can stick the nozzle in again and get some more in.
Not sure I'd want to do this though.

I know it's 56 litres to fill up the rallye.i usually do that within a few miles of orange light coming on

Around 12 gallons for over 400 miles.

I can live with that Yes

60 litre tank, and circa 7 from top of tank to top of filler neck Yes

I have got 63 litres in mine, and 64 in the diesel (same tank)

In both the above instances though I was extremely low on fuel, like 30 odd miles the other side of the red Laugh

Mine did this once before whilst driving up a hill. Thankfully the guy at Longlife where i had just left was nice and run me down a can of fuel lol.
Ever since, it gets filled up at a quarter of a tank. Don't know if my light even works

My Ph.1's gauge is all over the place whenever you change direction. I don't think Ph.1 fuel tanks are baffled.

None of them are.
The Ph1 fuel senders were the same as the 106 S1 ones iirc which had a dreadful issue where the float arm lost all its resistance so it always floated on the fuel even around corners (when it should temporarily be submerged).

New sender unit will sort that.

No 64.49l was my highest amount, more room but it got to the round £ so was happy from my records. 67l was back in day record by a long gone former member from memory, Gazzerdaman/Rich E would remember who.

Wish it was although think I still hold the most miles per tank record...

Anyway back to OP's query light comes on at approx 52l although I've had mine not light till 54/55l. What sort of range you getting?

The gauge works fine, sometimes I start it up and the light will be on and the gauge on empty. It's that fuel sender unit I believe. According to the gauge sometimes I finish my drive to work with more petrol than I started with! LOL

Yeah as above really, to me 1/4 is empty. Think my car is using too much fuel but it's hard to tell.

I don't usually run the car down to the point of the red light coming on to be honest. I have done a few times and I would say 10 miles is the most I've gone on it and that was motorway miles sitting at 60mph just to make sure I got to the garage without running out.

In terms of miles per tank, I have managed last year in Europe to get 224 miles to the first half a tank (all motorway driving) and also managed 28 miles to 1/3 of a tank when hammering it through the French Alps. Laugh
