Hi all I've just removed my doner engine for my race car. I'm gonna list all the things I'm going to do to it, please add anything I've missed or opinions on what I've listed, all advice appreciated.

Ok the engine is going to have throttle bodies and cams to suit.

Gas flow head
Valves reseated? (Any advice)
Skimmed head
Pocket pistons
Block skimmed
Knife edge crank
Balanced rods crank, lightened flywheel and pulley.
Replacing rings bearings etc.

Like I said earlier this will be my first project so any advice welcomed

Wouldn't bother knife edging the crank, doubt you'll find anyone to do it anyway but its really not worth it unless you're hitting 9k rpm+ and can actually screw you're engine up. Those big balance weights are there for a reason! Its not usually necessary to skim the block, a good rub down with wet and dry will give you a nice clean surface. Getting the valves reseated is definately a good idea. Find someone with a Serdi machine, it cuts the valves and the seat to the same angle and gives a nice fit between the valves and the seats with no further work.

Not near you, no! There's a few places up here that have them, so there's got to be lots of people near you that have them! I'd suggest googling!

Should be loads of places around your way, Head work I would just clean up and nothing else as you can end up making things allot worse

Crank, agree with Pete 100%,

For balancing I always use http://vibrationfree.co.uk/

See if you can get some Forged Pistons and Steel Rods, save mucking around with the std ones

But not knowing your history, If starting out then spending the money on time in the seat and training will get more out of you and the car than £10k on the engine and suspension

Cheers miles, I'm trying to keep costs down, so forged pistons and steel rods might be a no no. I'm not after massive power gains, hopefully around the 200bhp mark, I'm a reasonably experienced circuit driver( but no Schumacher ). Just need a bit more power for the class I race in.

Basically what stan has said already but it helps to bed the rings in and to stop the bores from glazing.

Bit of a bump, I'm trying to get a replacement set of cam cover bolts:

SCREW WITH BASE DIAM 6X100-38 0205 51
SOCKET CHEESEHEAD SCREW DIAM 6X100-25 6913 F6 / RP 6913 N8

Can anyone point me to a link for these bolts or generic equivalents? I'm not sure if they're M6 x 100 or what!

just chuck the part number in ebay

probably get them for half the price in stainless at an engineering firm

you mean the longer ones? the link is for the 25mm ones i think. the 38mm ones are the others. i'd just go to an engineering place honestly, it'll be peanuts
