My questions are:
Does anyone used that spec cams already?
I have a bp270 inlet cam that I would like to install, but will it worth?
Cheers

Hi, I´m pretty sure I´ve read a threat somewhere saying that aftermarket cams are useless in some point with a SC kit but there are a "Turbo" spec cams that go fine with this ( 262º inlet and 257º exhaust i think...).My questions are: Does anyone used that spec cams already? I have a bp270 inlet cam that I would like to install, but will it worth? Cheers |

I'm not sure if it's true of centrifugal chargers but certainly with roots or screw chargers more aggressive cams can work quite well. With the rotrex being more like a crank driven turbo rather than a true supercharger/compressor as you say they may prefer a turbo cam. I'm sure someone on here ran some 285s or similar on a low boost set up, can't remember the results though! Worth a search though ________________________________________ www.bridgecraftmotorsport.co.uk |

It has been suggested by Lynx in the past that less aggressive cams than standard would see a much greater benefit in the mid range. The issue with the standard cams in that they don't find their power band until after 4k. This is no different once you have a charger bolted on. My car has the same drivability and power as a standard car in most of the mid range, it's only from 5k to 8k she's an absolute animal and tries to spin the globe the opposite way round. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Has anyone played with the cam timing? Maybe closing the exhaust valves a bit earlier may help?________________________________________ www.bridgecraftmotorsport.co.uk |

On my current super high boost engine the cam timing is set at 0.However, on my high boost engine Wayne and myself did play with the cam timing when it was on the rollers being mapped and we found it detrimental to adjust it. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

When you say less aggressive you´re telling me that my 1.8 16v cams will do a greater job that my gti ones with the SC kit?Stan how could you say your car has the same drivability as a standard when you´re riding a 450+hp beast? |

Stan how could you say your car has the same drivability as a standard when you´re riding a 450+hp beast? I don't know the spec of the 1.8 16v cams, but I'm saying that a cam with more duration and less lift will benefit the setup in the mid range yes. As for driving like a standard car, below 3.5k it certainly does. Don't forget my car has 450bhp at 7950rpm, not throughout the rest of the rev range. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

I dont know about the lift neither but they have a substantial less duration... I thought you said less aggressive about the duration Yes, I was just kidding because I have no idea what is a 450hp 306.. Obsiously I understand what you said because its "almost" the same with my supercharger |

I'd leave the exhaust cam alone and get an inlet cam that has more duration but similar lift. Then get a pulley that runs max sc rpm about 7000-7500 rpm, should give you nice top end without having to rev the nuts off it with better mid range too. If you speak to any cam manufacturer they should be able to put your engine spec details into their software program and give you a selection of cam choices, with predicted end results. ________________________________________ Oulton Park in a BTCC 306 vid 1Oulton Park in a BTCC 306 vid 2 Lap of the 'ring |

Rich told me there is no gain by putting aftermarket cams in an S/C car as i was planning on fitting pt80's into my first low boostIf your looking for more power simply save up for a high boost bottom end instead of cams etc IMO |
