Has anyone ever used/ fitted an rs500 rad and/or intercooler? I haven't done any measuring yet but think this setup may be the way forward with the dimma to avoid the boost pipes going under the cross member Dunno
I would still have the boost pipes at the bottom and have the rad on top of them (with some clearance)
Iv never owned a car that uses a header tank so not sure how they are plumbed in but I can assume that you can either have a t-piece off one of the pipes going into the rad or a separate pipe that goes into the rad Dunno

Depends on core size I'd say ?

I'm not a fan of running the boost pipes under the front ? Could you not have side mounts and come round the side ?

The boost pipes wouldn't be under the cross member just under the rad instead of using the intercooler as intended and having the boost pipes on top!
I could go round the sides but im not sure as too how much clearance I will have with the wheels

It would have to be a very narrow intercooler and I would still need to get a different rad ill post up a picture of the rs500 set up so you get an idea

What's the core size ? You need maximum cooling as boost = hot Yes don't want a melt down

May need a custom rad with large core ?

the only thing I'd say about that Ollie is the core on the intercooler on Richws old car is significantly bigger by 60mm.?
I think that the design of the intercooler and rad is spot on and it will work been tempted to do it myself you'll be fine it'll definitley cool the car enough. just wonder because you won't have as much intercooler exposed with this design.

From speaking to nick I have the largest intercooler out of everyone and is maybe s bit over kill

I'm going to do some measuring today and see if it will fit!

Work have mentioned about me going back out to the sand pit again in Feb so I really need to crack on with the dimma if I decide to go

I think you only need an expansion tank if your pressure cap is on radiator, on a header tank you just run a pipe down towards the ground like on the standard gti6 radThumbs up

Basically a header tank wants to be the highest point in cooling system, with two pipes atleast to so you get coolant flow through the tank.
One off bottom of tank T pieced into a pipe to feed out of header tank, with my 309 I converted to gti6 eng I put it into the pipe that runs from thermo housing to rear of block by water pump, then pipe going into top of header tank to return coolant.

Hi i had this set up in my Rallycross 206 where the intercooler is in front of the rad and the hoses run round the outside of the front rad crossmember.

Even after fitting a huge brass rad behind the intercooler it would over heat when on high boost due to the intercooler robbing all the cool air and it eventually overheated and picked up a piston when i was leading the final and i took a chance when i knew it was running hot and trashed £1000 of pistons and rods.

I have now moved the rad to the rear of the car so it has maximum cooling without it affecting the intercooler.

I think you are a special case though as you must spend an awful lot of time at full revs but not high speed!

Yeah, we have similar issues with the buggies, they're a bas**rd to keep cool when you're using so much power but low average speeds.
Radiator shrouds and great big fk off fans are the answer Big grin
