New OE springs at the front would obviously be needed. What actually sets the right height of the rear beam?
Thanks

Assuming the suspension is all in good working order and has recently been fully rebuilt, what would be involved in returning it to the std. ride height if both the rear beam and the front springs were lowered 40mm?New OE springs at the front would obviously be needed. What actually sets the right height of the rear beam? Thanks ________________________________________ 61k miles Ph.1 Diablo '6 Project Thread |

So new OE springs at the front, and at the rear I'd need to remove the shocks, support the beam on a trolley jack, remove the TBs and then move the trailing arms so that the distance between the damper bolts is the standard 330mm, re-insert the TBs and refit the shocks?________________________________________ 61k miles Ph.1 Diablo '6 Project Thread |

Yep. Basically it. But, unless you know the history of the beam, I'd rebuild it.By setting the arm to a different position can increase the chance of wear on the bearings and shaft ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. Thanks.I'm looking at a car that has a refurbished rear beam, but it is also lowered on spax springs and the rear beam has been lowered to suit. I'd far rather have standard suspension or at least closer to it with uprated bits, as I think the current setup isn't perfect handling-wise and I'm not such a fan of the aesthetics of excessively lowered cars anyway. Would OEM-replacement springs like these from KYB be of decent enough quality, or would I really need to go for OEM Peugeot, slightly lowered aftermarket ones or another brand? Oh, and tools-wise, I'd be fine with sockets, spanners, a mallet, axle stands and a trolley jack? Will I need something a bit heftier than a rubber mallet to knock the TBs out? ________________________________________ 61k miles Ph.1 Diablo '6 Project Thread |

i'd go genuine springs on the front and genuine rear shocksinstead of buying new, buy off someone who has removed standard springs and fitted lowered ones. if they are a bit tatty, just get them powdercoated ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. Are used springs going to be nearly as good as new ones? And better than decent-brand pattern ones like KYBs?________________________________________ 61k miles Ph.1 Diablo '6 Project Thread |

Yep, fair point, but then any secondhand one could be any one of these part numbers.I guess they might have changed the springs between phases. I'd be surprised if they weren't all suitable though. Thanks for the help. ________________________________________ 61k miles Ph.1 Diablo '6 Project Thread |

I think Rallye's are listed as different springs too, that huge weight reduction makes a difference. ________________________________________ '90 1.6 205 GTi, '98 306 GTi-6 |

Could be each phase and one for the rallye I guess yeah, although in reality they're only likely to just have slightly different spring rates?________________________________________ 61k miles Ph.1 Diablo '6 Project Thread |
