If I was to change the part below that was removed from a 6 rack and fitted it to a vts rack would it turn the quick rack back to the same ratio as a 6 rack or would it still be a quick rack?

Racks and pinions come as matched gear pairs. If you tried fitting a different pinion gear it would probably just lock up and not move at all. The teeth would not align.________________________________________ Rich |

Yep iv just took the vts one apart and found that they are completely different size rack and pinions... Great....The thread for the low pressure pipe has been cross threaded, I guess that's the first thing I should have checked before changing the rods over! The previous owner wouldn't have known as im assuming he received the rack with the pipes already removed Im going to try and tidy the threads up but its not looking likely |

What Rich said, the rack and pinion are matched, the pair together are what makes it a quick rack, putting that pinion on a standard rack will just lock it solid.________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. http://306oc.co.uk/forum/thread-18204.html This shoud be of some use. Shows you how to disassemble that part of the rack and you could change over the damaged housing? |
