Folks, im planning on changing the gearbox oil, but im not sure wich one goes. I believe it´s a BE3/6, car is 97. The manual recomends Total or Esso 75w80, but it doesn´t say if its GL4 or GL5.
In the Liqui Moly website, recomends SemiSynth 75w80 GL5 for that gearbox. But they don`t sell it here, only Synth 75w90 GL5. Im planning on putting Motul 75w80. My main concern is if the gearbox goes with GL4 or GL5. I heard they are not compatible, and GL5 can attack soft materials on older gearboxes.
So, what do I use? GL4 or GL5?
Thanks mates

Whats pugs own oil? Here in Uruguay, Peugeot has an arrangement with Lubrax, from Petrobras, and recomends their products. They only sell Lubrax.
The manual recomends Total TRANSMISSION BV 75W80, which i now found out it´s GL4, thats the one you are saying?

Whats the best i can use? Since is something you change every 60k or 5 years, I want to put the best i can. And also because it has around 160k miles
I also wanted to add a liqui moly anti friction additive, what do you say?
Whats better? Motul or Total? Both 75w80 GL4 + the additive
Thanks

What the manual recommends is the stuff to go with, Total. Thumbs up

And yes, it's a GL4 oil. Smile

Ok, thanks mates! I`ll go with Total then, and the additive.
One more thing, if I try to put 2nd gear fast, and above 4k RMP´s, the gearbox scratches, makes noise, i dont know how to call it. I have to let it drop RPM´s before shifting, i heard it´s common on this boxes, is it? Sounds weird

Yes, it's the synchro beginning to give up.

Sometimes an oil change can rescue these, other times it doesn't.

You only need to change 2nd gear synchro - no need to change the others if they are fine.
