Hi all, had to replace a drive shaft seal on my 6 as it was weeping. Got the seal and 2 litres of oil thinking that would be enough as bund to be some dregs in the dif housing Dunno , but when filling up after replacing the seal there wasn't any coming out the oil level plug Sad Is it going to do much damage driving 20 miles to work and back as it is?

It's fine. I didn't know there was even a oil level plug. Drain it all and bung two litres in. Job done

Was the car completely level?

IIRC the correct amount is something silly like 2.1 litres but I've only ever put in 2l and It's been fine, as you say there will always be a small amount left in there so no need to worry.

Even when I've drained it dry, 2 litres will bring it up to the level if you wait long enough for it to settle.Thumbs up

I asked Pug when I did mine and the answer as given was to put 2 litres in it. As said even if the proper level is 2.1 litres, then a drained 'box would still ahve 100mls clinging to nooks and crannies in the box. I put 2 litres in mine and it hasn't blown up yet over 2 years later.
