Hi,

I know induction has been covered 9999 times...but this is a slightly different question to "what is the best?".

Does anyone know the best cone filter neck diameter to fit the standard intake pipe leading from the airbox to the TB? I'd like it to fit in the standard airbox but also be a good seal and filter effectively once in place.

Of course, I could take it off and measure it etc and then order something but then I'd be left with a filterless car that I don't want to drive for longer, which isn't a desirable option. Also, if I remove the resonator on the airbox, am I correct in understanding that getting a plate welded over the hole is my only real option for bunging it?

Thank you.

There is no real gains for removing the resonator

I used a Tiger sealed plate over mineThumbs up

Resonators main job is to quieten intake noise, removed mine from airbox and inlet manifoldSmile

I've read so many conflicting idea's on resonators that I've just left it in. I can't see the case for it's removal being massive and having much effect on performance to be honest

Can't see any performance gains, but deffo more induction noise without themYes

I hate the sound of my induction. If it wasn't for the power gains then I would be on an airbox. Add that to the Jetex and I just want to climb inside myself when I drive through town centres

Jamie - You would get more of a power gain using the standard air box than an open filter, as long as you had a decent cold air feed to it. Yes

With a cold air feed an induction gives cleaner revs than the airbox does.

In any case, does anyone have any idea on a suitable neck size? Know the diameter of the hole in the top of the airbox? Know the space available inside it?
I basically just don't really know which cone to order without dismantling the whole thing and looking, and was wondering if anyone has any information like this to hand.

I'm not looking for performance gains...
My air filter likely needs changing once I manage to get the seized airbox-bottom off, and spending the same money as on a replacement k&n or pipercross etc. I could get a cone filter and have a nice induction note without any real loss in power, without spending any extra money, if anything spending a little less as cone filters alone seem quite cheap.

Not in my experience with these enginesNo

Had two Rallyes at one point one with induction, one with standard airboxWink

Standard airbox did not restrict the engine, much better throttle response, more part throttle response, more low down torque Yes

Induction kit is just for noise!Smile

Hence it seems like a decent idea to have a cone in the standard airbox thus keeping the same inlet tract and heat shielding but having a cone filter instead of std. circular for a bit more noise.

What you need low down torque for? Keep it in the red! Smile

Indeed, agree with Coskev, an air box with a reliable cold air feed is the best for power. Yes
