Thought I'd best get a projecto thread up of my GTI6 that I purchased last month. Its a Phase 1 in Sigma Blue with 37k on the clock Big grin Its not mint by any means and the previous jobs carried out by the previous owner are some what dodgy to say the least (more on that later). But it has the solid foundations of a good car. Anyway I love it and now have a Phase 1 GTI6 in one of the best colours Cool

So here she is as I picked her up,

listed issue with her were
Bad points
Needs a new cat as its snapped just behind the cat ( have a second hand one that can come with the car)
Needs thermostat and fans sorting out as neither seem to work at the moment.
Need lower engine mount as the engine shakes ( replaced top one and turns out its lower one)
Slightly squeaky brakes

Actual issues on top of that were:
Front tyres were different size to the rears and the spare was fitted due to a puntcure on the front, made for interesting handling with 195/55 on 1 side and 195/50 on other
Drivers regulator was knackered
Radiator was knackered

Replaced bottom engine mount with powerflex as has 1 already and easy to fit. Ordered a hoffman sports cat and gpt a oem exhaust to replace the powerflow as was too loud even with the cat replaced

Fitted new nissens rad, fan switch and thermostat. Didn't go smoothly though, had to purchase a different bottom hose and a new thermostat housing as mine snapped on removal, all good though as fan works Dunno

I'd been told that brake were recently replaced and the car seemed to stop ok, so thought i'd be fine leaving them for a while, that was until I went to get a pair of new front tyres. Check out the flexi on the drivers side Crazy

Got home and whipped off the braided hoses I had on my dturbo and fitted them, while i had the wheels off I set about fitting the rest of the polybushes I had on the Dturbo such as wishbone bushes, P bushes, bump stops and tensioners. Car drives really well now Thumbs up (crusty underside shot is my dturbo btw)

So current spec is
Xsara Mist Jets
Powerflex bush kit fitted
Hoffmans Sports Cat
K&N Panel Filter
Braided Brake Hoses
Nissens Rad
Sony Headunit with stalk control (awesome LOL )
Cheapy Alpine Components as stock speaks were fubared

How she looks after a quick wash and rinse

Future Plans
Proper cleanup
Decent rear tyres replace nankang "pro sports"
Vibra tecnhnics fast road top and gearbox engine mounts
30mm Eibachs springs fitted to my Spax PSX shocks
Rear loweres 30mm with 21mm torsion bars
Pugracing exhaust
Pugracing gear linkage rods
Enjoy Big grin

Looks nice and looking forward to see how this progresses. I do like a nice P1. That front flexi hose looked a bit of a nightmare! And brakes recently replaced??? - it might be the pic but there looks to be a bit of a lip on those discs.

Don't chuck that cat away - I've had a new piece of tube welded to the back of mine (split at the back like yours) and now it is as good as gold. I did consider a Hoffman sports cat though - what do you think of it and what is the quality of manufacture like?

Its the pic causing the disk to look lipped, they are new and have loads of meat on them, guy who changed the disks and pads messed up fitting the pads though as he couldn't get the brake wear sensor clips through the caliper LOL I'll get some mintex pads when I can afford it. Cats sat in my back garden, was going to weigh it in LOL Hoffman cat fits on nicely, worksmanship seems top notch. Car has a bit more top end ooomph without losing mid range torque I'd say. Will be nice when I can pair it with a pugracing exhasut though Smile

The car seemed to have some hesitation and juddering at certain revs such as between 2 and 3k at part throttle. So changed the plugs CTS and found the Intake air temperature sensor was unplugged, also adjusted the throttle cable for wide open throttle, car was going the best since I've had it, then popped off the bottom hose as I got to my girlfriends FML.

Got loads done to this over the last few weeks but only pics of how she looks so far

I've fitted:
Fast Road Vibratechnics top and gearbox mounts
Refurbed rear calipers and new rear pads as discovered that only 1 side had had any meat left on them and the other had knackered seals and pads down to the metal due to a mishap the previous owner had Roll eyes Which resulted in the purchase of new hard lines for the traling arms as the old unions were bending the brake lines as wouldn't turn. No New handbrake cables but I already had these for ages, just never got round to fitting to my d turbo Thumbs up
New N/S Driveshaft seal due to weeping
Lowered the rear 30 - 35mm and fitted Spax PXS dampers and f**ked up a torsion bar in the process of removing it Thumbs down
Lowered front 40mm on Spax PSX shocks and springs
New TRE as old ones were siezed solid so couldn't be adjusted

Next jobs are to try and dismantle a xsara VTS veam so I can fit 21mm torsion bars and to clean and paint the inner arches before winter sets in Thumbs up

I took the mounts off as have to drill through them to hold the tensioners in. Can get away with putting a jack under each side, letting each side down and removing the mounts.

Thanks very much, did you loosen the side you left attached to the car when dropping the other side down?

Anyone know if this car is P957 FRX as the description of bits added/replaced seems to match my project car.

Now on 48k with no engine but loads of parts gathered (most bits except the engine).

Thanks in advance.
