You must have, as welshpug has said there is no hole on a gti6 flywheel. I've just had a look at one I have here and there is 100% no hole on it.

I've got one here with a hole, and it has an engraved arrow pointing to it saying "gti6 timing hole ->", odd Unsure

Haha, what phase are the ones without holes in then? I have to say all the ones I've locked have all been phase 2 1997 or 1998 cars. Maybe thy did away with it on later ones?

Yes but parts get modified or made by different suppliers over different years.
