Been giving the rallye some TLC as I want to get it back out on track in the next few months.

Anyhow, the last few drives out, if I hammer in in 1st and go to change to second, it wont do into second gear, with the gear lever in the neutral position, its still in 1st. After a few pumps of the clutch and wiggle of the gear nob I can get it out of 1st.

My initial thoughts were the linkages, so I swapped my linkages over for some new one at weekend. But driving to work today, its done the same again. Any ideas?

Checked the oil level?

Where is the bite point?

Oil is fine as its changed quite often from me doing the driveshafts.

Bite point doesn't seem to have changed or anything. It all seems fine, every other gear is fine, its just occasionally when I boot it in 1st and go to change to second, it just wont come out of gear. Really confusing me!

Try a smoother gear change with some mechanical sympathy?

I'm thinking perhaps the selector inside is possibly worn and when you're trying to get it out of 1st, it gets stuck temporarily before eventually releasing.

Having said that though, it doesn't explain how the gear stick is in the neutral position but still stuck in gear...Crazy

Have you checked the condition of the 'ball' which connects to the main bar linking the gear stick to the engine bay?

Bent selector fork I would think. Gets worse when the gearbox is hot?

No different when hot.

Gearbox hasn't been great anyhow, sycro was starting to be a little dodgy on the change down to second on trackdays, so its time to rebuilt an old gearbox I've got I think

Possibily similar to what i had at pugfest. Went to smash it from 1st to 2nd and the lever came all the way back to the handbrake. Came out to neutral, slowly into 2nd and it was fine. Its done this twice since and on the selector arm, you can clearly see its travelled further than normal Sad

I've got the same on mine at the minute, I need to drop the oil really but I know that it's on the original clutch and fork bushes and the amount of play in the fork is stupid now. None of it is helping really with the change. I'm gonna hold till I SC and change it all in one go with the new engine I've got going in
