Having decided to convert my Phase 1 GTi6 to a V6, what parts are involved?

Approximate costs would be very useful to.

If you happen to have any of these parts lying around I may be interested.

My aim is 220Bhp+. Will have standalone ECU and throttle bodies.

The car is used solely for Track (and Fast road) fun.

Thanks in advance, Paul

i'm guessing you're doing the work?

need the engine, loom, then you shorten the driveshafts, cut the subframe so it doesn't foul the diff, downpipe reangle / shorten exhaust at a guess, mounts will need fabricating..

A lot of fabrication and correct alignment involved.

I purchased a V6 done by a home conversion and ended up taking it to Pug1off to get completly redone.

Cost me 4.5k with exhaust and rear beam height adjustment and 4 pots fitting and mot and bits and bobs.

They charged me £3333.00 + vat just for the conversion.

My advice would be to view a persons who's has been converted and investigate for yourself!
if I'm honest I'd like to have a go in one just to see what the power and torque feels like.

There's a couple of ways to do most of the bits.

The mounts you need to do something with the top. Options are make your own, fabricate the 406 one to fit or you can buy alloy ones ready made to do it. The gearbox mount goes straight on and the bottom fork will need slight alteration to fit.

Water system seems best to fit 406 rad and a 205 or similar expansion tank.

Driveshafts again few ways to do it but either way will need to be custom made.
The clutch setup can either be fully converted to hydraulic off the pedal or make a converter so the cable operates the hydraulic system.

The subframe clearance is an issue as mentioned, usual method seems to be space the subframe down a bit then remove parts of it to get clearance and re strengthen where necessary.

That's pretty much it, wiring in your case will depend on what ecu you are going to run. As I said in your other thread a later d9 engine on management should make the power you are wanting if mapped correctly on your aftermarket management without the need for throttle bodies etc.

ts a lot of work mate! i bought mine already done but to be honest it wasnt the best and i had to sort a lot of things out. in the end i was fed up with the hassle of the clutch. so i tried selling it but couldnt get rid so i scrapped it in the end Sad

Engine hangs quite low down, i would recommend coilovers as i bottemed out on a B road with standard suspension and put a hole in my sump!:

You need to space the subframe:

Sub frame will need cut:

Bottom mount re-angled:

Home made top mount:

Cable to hydraulic clutch! f**king awefull!!!

get a hydraulic conversion done, don't bother with the cable, its actually quite straightforward but do need to do it before fitting the engine!

LOL just seen the angle of those wishbones Laugh my ass off

nothing wrong with spacing the subframe, however a larger diameter than pictured is better!

not really stupid money cause I have the comfort of knowing.the V6 conversion has been done as it should by one of the best.

When it comes to selling mine not that I have any intentions it will add some value just having it done by a professional and being able to provide the proof so in my eyes its not silly money and I also can drive the car knowing its 100% safe and all done correct.

Plus I got an xsi cheap and made 2.5k breaking it up so that went towards the conversion cost so after my profit it only cost me 2k

You will not be fitting throttle bodies.

Next year my plan is to fit a D9 with the D8 head gasket to gain a couple bhp, with some stand alone management and complete custom exhaust all the way up to manifold and that will see rather more than 220.

I need to stick my prices up then, the conversion is quite simple really with a good clutch operation as well, mounts and shafts no issues, Just the subframe and the engine sitting low are the only downsides of it

Here's the only other goodwood V6
