Just wondering how others are doing this. i made up a semi circle hardwood (so will not damage the piston) jig with a hole for the gudgeon pin to pass through. Easiest way ive found is to gently heat the small end with oxy then carefully press the pin out. A couple of engineers told me to put the assembly in boiling water or even hot oil prior to pressing, this didn't really help. |

you need to get the rod VERY hot, but not the pin.If you do need to remove them I doubt you will be re-used however, so its no big deal to just press the pins out with a press cold. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

its a balance of heating the rod so it expands enough but not to the point where the pin wants to expand. I practiced on a scrap piston/rod in a cold press, took a fair bit of pressure then the piston brokeMine will be reused, I'm dreading refitting them! |

to get them pocketed. and before you say they can be done with the rod still attached, a friend of a friend will pocket them in exchanged for beer tokens providing i give him a set of bare pistons. This guy has mod'd many a piston for a variety of different engines so i trust he will be more than capable. |

sod removing them, just get him to do them in situ, far too high a risk of damaging them.________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

i do agree with what your saying but his preferred method is to do them this way. If i want him to split the assembly then labour costs will rise somewhat. The more i think about, the £110 i was recently quoted by Bridgecraft does seem very fair, but i do like to do as much as possible myself, not just for cost issues |

Does he realise the damage risk and how the rfs pistons are fitted? Also does he know the inclination of the valves and how much can be taken off safely? I really would get someone that knows the rfs to do them. Youll look a right dick if you get a freebie only to damage them and need more done ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

As above, even heating the rods up alone can potentially weaken them in that localised area. ________________________________________ Ph1 306 GTi 6 | RX8 231 S1 | YBR 125 Cafe Racer | MT-03 660 |

Personally having had my pistons pocketed by bridge craft not so long ago, I'm inclined to agree with Stan and mei. If there's any mistakes made in machining then your whole engine build could be ruined, for the sake of £110 get it done by Martin and rest in the knowledge it's been done right.... I agree too. I spoke to the chap who is/was going to pocket my pistons and he told me its easy enough to remove the pin however sometimes the rod can end up being scored as a result of the very tight clearance so, Bridgecraft it will be. |

I think you are making a wise choice with that decision. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |
