Hi guys,

It seems the clutch cable has snapped on my 306 GTI-6 and hoping to avoid taking the car to the local Halfords Autocentre or Mr Clutch to have it changed. Any garages with a bit of experience with Peugeots anyone can recommend in north or east London?

Thanks.

CB.

any garage can do it, same clutch mechanism as the XUD9TE found in countless 306's xsara's zx's, 406's etc.

Deepak is in London but near Heathrow.

Any garage should be able to do your clutch cable tbh.

Yep - Deepak was first port of call but he is tied up for a few weeks. He has done work for me in the past and like most on here I would recommend him.

So in the end took a chance on a garage called GB Autos in east London as a friend suggested trying them. Should have known wouldn't be as straight forward when the guy after inspecting tried telling me it is a hydraulic clutch and he will need to drop the gearbox. I am no expert under the bonnet but explained the setup to the garage manager and also pointed out the cable hooked on the back of the pedal! Didn't have a choice but to leave with them as AA had left with the flatbed by that time.

The guys did the job and all fine, not the tidiest people as I have had to clean the car inside after them but all working fine.

I did consider doing it myself, don't mind trying things but needed the car working bit quicker than what my effort would have taken! If a man in the know would take 1 hour then safe to say would take me minimum 4 hours!

    Thanks all.

I am yet to find a trustworthy garage in East/South-East London. I have even tried a garage listed under the "The Good Garage Scheme" in East London and was not overly impressed.

Maybe I have high standards but when I asked them to do a full service as well as an MOT they did what they classed as a full service which missed a couple of things I'd expect and their MOT report listed some really random stuff as not so much advisories just FYIs..

Plus their reception/office was filled with cigarette smoke...

Cost me £120 inc VAT + parts. Not the cheapest I guess. Halfords Autocentre wanted £70 + parts but am sure they would have tried convincing me to change the clutch as well.

Sharvey44 - these guys were part of the Motor Industry Code, overall work done was OK but clearly manager wasn't as clued up. Just it wasn't done as clean as anyone would want in my opinion, but to be honest I couldn't be bothered to go through it all as rather just go elsewhere in the future. They had plenty of work going on with BMWs, Mercs and other cars so people expect clean work I am sure.

I have a BMW specialist I use for my BMW cars who is based in Edmonton, might just use him in the future and accept he will have a little trial and error on things!
