I've had the car for 2 1/2 years and driven it about 5000 miles and I've put 3 OE CV boots on it (with correct clips, not cable ties)and had to get CV boots secured on 2 other occasions. It is getting a bit annoying, especially as the 1200miles-since-new Pug OE nearside pads got contaminated with CV boot grease in the latest incident last week. I suspect it was off during most of the 600mile return trip at 75mph judging by the massive amount of grease everywhere which won't have done the driveshaft any good. As a result the car now pulls a bit to the right when braking suddenly (such as when some bell-end pulls into the outside lane on the motorway at 50mph and suddenly everyone is on the brakes). At normal town speeds and gentle braking it feels normal and the braking is fine. I don't want to put more new pads on it just yet in case it happens again.

The only common factor (boot work done by 3 different garages) is that I've had the car jacked up a lot while I've worked on it and maybe the suspension being at full drop causes them to pop off. I had the NS jacked up before we drove up north the other weekend and it was the one where there was grease everywhere about 600 miles later.

Is this a known issue - any BTDT tips on how to stop it?

Will the grease gradually boil off the pads or do I need to replace the feckers?

Maybe a bit of brake spray and a surface grind will help the pads out?

Garages have a habit of slapping way to much grease into joints, often cause premature failure.

I was going to say remove the tie wraps and use correct clips but you already are, I have never understood why some people/garages tie wrap the boots on anyway I hate that.

Because zip ties work just fine, many cv boots only come with cable ties.

zip ties are heroic. fixed my friends Corsa ComboRot van with zip ties! failed on loose headlight and loose cv boot. repacked with grease because he wouldn't buy a new one. zip tie. job done

headlight mount was smashed. drilled 5mm hole into it, zip tied around slam panel

good for another year

It's happened to both sides. As I said the only thing I can think of it because the suspension has been under full drop a lot since I have owned the car, but I would have thought a lot of cars on here were the same. I've been driving it this week so will have a look underneath it tomorrow and see whether it is hanging together.

Yes they do and there s**te and pop off, why do people even change the boots and cv joints when a complete shaft is usually available for not much if any more than the cv joint.

3 x cv boot kits followed by 2 cvs due to the boots coming off and driving with no greae in the shafts followed by a shaft when we say f**kitimsickofbodgingilldoitrightnow =£190
1 x driveshaft = £100

I'd rather spend more to save in the long run for something that lasts

Economics fail for welshpig

Who said I'd done it?
Like I said I wouldn't strip a car down just to fit a boot, I've seen enough of these s**tty bodge jobs done by other people happy enough to do half a job to put me off following other idiots bad workmanship and advice, do you really think a tie wrap is sufficient because its not its a w**k s**tty bodged halfajob idea.

and how many people check there driveshaft boots daily?
maybe the ones who's car you've worked on may just need to do that by the sounds of it mr halfajob

I've just fitted a driveshaft to the mondeo, ford wanted £800 odd for a genuine one, euros wanted £45 can't see it lasting very long tho, and the boot has already got a kink/squashed bit in and I haven't even let it off the jacks yet.
Ya get what yer pay for, yes a boot kit may help it keep going for a little while longer on the cheap, but long term ya get what yer pay for generally.
LOL
where I used to work they took there car (a s**tty focus) to garage, a brand new factors driveshaft was £40 did they fit one, no they fitted a cv joint and boot at £35.
3 days later it was shaking its tits off, the tie wrapped boot had come off, grease was everywhere and the new cv joint was toast after doing 2000 miles.
why didn't they just fit a full driveshaft that was guaranteed against this s**t or atleast use proper clips.

I just think using tie wraps there is totally under engineered.

That things stripped down every week tho, a car is more fit and forget until the next time it's moaning and groaning.
