As im soooo bored out here iv been researching and came across a company called antonov that have designed a 2 speed gear box that bolts onto the charger.
For some reason I cant link the site out here but if you search "antonov rotrex" you will find out more info

Iv copied the below from one of the sites

The two speed drive enables a Rotrex centrifugal pump supercharger to be better matched to any engine. By driving the supercharger faster at low engine speeds, higher boost ratio can be obtained to provide additional low speed engine torque. As engine speed rises the unit automatically changes up to enable the supercharger to continue to operate effectively at higher engine speeds.

So who is going to be the first to buy one of these units Dunno

Perhaps I'm having a "blonde moment" but why go to all that trouble when the addition of a smaller pulley would have nearly the same effectDunno

Cool

Coz fitting a smaller pulley would mean that the charger goes into overspeed at top engine rpm and most likely destroy the charger?

I have one of these complete with the charger, should you want it, brand new in the box.
Was interested in it like you but then lost the love.

I'm pretty sure there are companies working on toroidal cvt's for these at the moment, I reckon they will be better than 2 speed versions.

"toroidal"

That's easy for you to say....

Ok I can understand the point of having one of these on a road car with the extra low down torque but for track use its a bit of a white elephant.

A slightly smaller pulley would be best for me I think..

Cool

I think that with the pulley that your using at the moment makes the charger spin at its safest rpm with out destroying the charger, might be worth asking rich or lynx?

or just fit a VNT turbo and an ecu capable of controlling it properly.

That's a good point Meirion but its also like saying buy a r34 skyline or 911 turbo as they are built with power as standard, not quite the same though is it!!

I would take £850 for it.

£950 with the fluid lines, filter and reservoir, also includes the mounting brackets.

I assume it knows when to change gear and does it all automatically?

No you get a gear lever to put next to you in the carYes

No it's all done on centrifugal forces so its all done automatically, sorry couldn't resist.Thumbs up

A bit of blurb

The two speed drive enables a Rotrex centrifugal pump supercharger to be better matched to any engine. By driving the supercharger faster at low engine speeds, higher boost ratio can be obtained to provide additional low speed engine torque. As engine speed rises the unit automatically changes up to enable the supercharger to continue to operate effectively at higher engine speeds.

The ability of the mechanism to operate as a passive device without the need for additional external control or hydraulics offers low cost, high efficiency and simplicity of application. The compact Antonov drive system - essentially a tiny automatic gearbox - extends the engine torque curve delivered by a centrifugal pump supercharger. This type of supercharger is in itself more compact, less complex and less expensive than a positive displacement supercharger, but in comparison cannot offer the same torque output at low engine revs. The addition of an Antonov drive system, however, extends the engine torque curve available to exceed even the performance of a positive displacement blower. In addition, the torque curve can be tuned so that a smaller displacement engine matches exactly the performance of a much larger naturally aspirated unit.

On track where you'd spend most of your time at higher RPM you'd better off with the normal larger pulley, hence the benefit from a 2 stage system on the road.

I can confirm that there is no need for this system on the road if you have the C38 variety of charger. The torque produced is pretty good and it spins up without delay too.

I can however see the point if you're using the C30 series still as the low down power delivery from these isn't particularly great, and there could be a benefit from fitting this. Yes
