hi guys, got a situation with my gti6. had the car for about 6-7 weeks, started ever time. on Saturday I went to change the inlet manifold for a powdercoated one. swapped the TB over with a new gasket with all the known working sensors off my old manifold.
however, when I went to start the car, it wont start Sad fuel pump primes, injectors all working according to planet. no fault codes listed. took the plugs out and their black and wet so looks like its not sparking.
swapped the manifold back to original incase it was that which caused it but still wont start.
anyone know where to start with the no sparking issue?
if you need any other information ill do my very best to help, need the car fixed by Monday for work!
thanks

I would check for sure there is no spark first , take one of the coil packs off , push the spark plug up it , put some tape arround it to keep it there then lay it on the head , crank and check for sparks , oh and make sure you have not disturbed any earth cables when you changed the manifold!

all sparking against the head, but all coming out wet after being turned over. could it be to do with the fact that the coils don't really put much pressure on the plug heads and could be a weak connection causing it not to spark in the head?
really stuck with where to go with this now

I presume you cleaned off the head and put a
New manifold gasket on?

yep cleaned it all, made sure all surfaces were smooth and used a new gasket on manifold to head and TB to manifold.
doesn't even sounds like its trying to start, just turns over but must be injecting if plugs come out wet.
would disconnecting the injectors or the battery cause the injection sequence to go out?

Make sure the manifold is mating to the cylinder head fully. I did this on my six and it wouldn't start up until I notice there was a small gap at the bottom between the manifold and the head.

Does it try to start? Could be just luck the crank sensor is knackered

It won't inject or spark if the crank sensor is knackered , you have got all bolts in I take it including the one on the underside ?

If the crank sensor was knackered then it wouldn't be sparking.

If you want to eliminate the crank sensor unplug it put a multimeter between pins 1 and 2 and you should have 300-400 ohms

Did you have the manifold shot blasted and then powder coated ?

Did you clean out all the shot that gets in the manifold if it was blasted ?

Checked crank sensor, is within auto data spec.
All ports/ threads etc were either blocked or had bolts placed in them throughout whole process, so that wouldn't of been an issue as it was done by a friend who has done it many times

Connectors only really go back on one place.
Really confused with this, ecu and imobiliser must be fine for injector pulse and spark, all injectors are injecting, all plugs spark agains head, crank sensor is fine.

good point. from what you have described it could well be something simple. double check everything's been re connected and in the correct order.
Does engine attempt to fire?

have you checked to see inlet is free from rags etc? i have in the past seen guys who have fitted manifolds only to later discover there was paper towel wedged inside

Double checked all connections. Nothing inside manifold, made sure before I fitted.
It does attempt to on first turn of the key, then just keeps turning over. I had it running yesterday by disconnecting the map but it ran like crap and kept cutting out if you throttled it. Would a faulty MAP cause this?

So your sure 100% that no shot got into the manifold ? I had the same thing happen to me when I fitted a powder coated manifold? I didn't clean it out properly so shot got into the engine and killed it Sad

But I wouldnt of thought the manifold pressure would of stopped it from starting completely?
I did give it a quick blast of air first, but it didn't start as soon as manifold was fitted so I am convinced its something electrical
