scoobydoo for an XU 16v engine, but you should never need one that thick.

assuming its skimmed flush, ie no marker left, what gasket can i get away with?

no idea how deep the marker is, but 0.2mm +/- 0.05mm is max, from 137mm, hence peugeot selling you a 1.4mm gasket, and a std 1.2mm.

We used a head saver once after having a head skimmed that was unknown ? I can try and find out some details ?

Attaches to the block under the head gasket ? Came with some sort of glue to permanently attach to the block Yes

Buggered if I can remember who we got it from but I can find out Thumbs up

ive heard of that before. if it wasnt for this head recently having all new guides, valves and tapetts then i would just bin it and use one of my spares

would another head, cheap maybe with known bent valves
rebuild this head with the good valve setup new stem seals and a seat regrind
much more time consuming but wont that be more stable?

after a few hours searching and many phone calls to various suppliers/specialists i can only come up with this, i can easily get a Fibre gasket - 1.4, 1.45, 1.5. 1.55mm for the 8v turbo 406/xantia. Are those dimensions the fitted thickness?
Believe it or not no one in the uk stocks a 1.5/1.6mm MLS gasket, according to PEC, Cometic are no longer producing them, another company said they could get me one but there is a 16 week back log!!
Also apparantly i can use a standard MLS gasket with my head and NOT have valve to piston interferance although i was told the ECU can't/won't retard the ignition timing to compensate for the higher compression ratio. I thought the 6's brain would have been more than capable of dealing with this seeing as its self learning

Anyone care to give me a second opinion? If none of this safely doable then i will have to scrap my freshly skimmed head and build a spare one up

yep, a fibre gasket will be fine, I've used a 1.35 and 1.45mm ones where the head had been skimmed right to its limit.

you need to measure your head accurately.

the ecu will pull the timing back, it does have a knock sensor.

depending on the cams you have, and just how much it has been skimmed, I would not advise using a std gasket without valve cutouts, do not believe the others that say they're fine, if it was fine, Peugeot would not bother making a thicker gasket.

T16 uses fibre gasket so based on that fact - good enough for me
I was originally planning to fit my 270 regrinds but not much chance of that now
is the fibre gasket's thickness the final fitted, ie, compressed dimension?

BY320 1.45mm Payen

i tried corteco's cat but it says 'engine not found'. I didn't have time today to collect head from engineers but it was bloody close to the marker so safe to say its now flush, hopfully not past it.
Ive got a set of snap on digital verniers so once i pick it up i will measure it. I feel better now i know there are gaskets available in various thickness's

Got my head back today, not as bad as i was expecting, managed to source a 1.45mm gasket via my mate at ECP, annoyingly it won't be here till friday

according to engineers its 135.20 so with the 1.45mm gasket i will only be a tad over standard compression.
Head gasket was a lucky pick, i handed ECP a selection of part numbers and all they can find is 1.1mm MLS and a fibre 1.45
