What is involved in fixing a lifter? What's wrong with it ?
Jon
Hi Jon,
Regarding fixing alifter, I have never attempted it, but am led to believe you would need to just remove the cams, then replace the lifters.
The problem is on Cylinder 1 (nearest Battery) and gives a slight misfire on idle, when revving normally you can not tell. It's almost like it's got a dodgy coil pack, but they have been swapped around and tested, ruling them out.
I was told some time ago it sounded like it was developing a lifter problem, which seems to have got worse over time. The engine has never had a snapped belt and is not a 'tapper' (generally caused by a repair, when they didn't change the valve guides too). I can vouch for tappers being bad, as I once had a head repair which had a tapping sound, after 2K the valve sheared off and fell into the cylinder = Bad
I can get some pics up of the head later on, as I have now removed it from the block.
So in summary, the lifter issue only affects the Cylinder next to the battery, all others operate normally.
Matt
