I've found holding the revs slightly higher than idle aids bleeding, as the pump is moving the coolant round fasterThumbs up

Yes

Turn the heating on full whack, open the bleed valve on thermostat pipes until water comes out and replace nipple. Then move down to the thermostat housing, undo the Allen key bolt can't remember the size off the top of my head but its possibly 4mm, don't undo it all the way just enough to you can see the pin hole machined in to it, this is where the water will disperse. Once you see water tighten it and move on to the rad.

Open the bleed valve which will be to your right and once water appears your done Thumbs up just make sure during the process the rad is topped up with coolant and once the process is complete just feel that the rad is hot all over.

Job jobbed.

I'm a Peugeot / Citroen mechanic feel free to pick my brains while we're there. Thumbs up

Also would recommend thermostat replacement and by far the best way to bleed is to use the top Half of a bottle with suitably sized end that fits in the top of the rad nicely and fill that with coolant. This makes the water level in the top of there much higher than the heater matrix and the air will naturally make its way to the highest point in the system.

Your best off filling with the bleed points all open without the engine running to begin with unroll they p**s out then close them, have a good few squeezes of the rad hoses and start it up with the bottle of water still in the top of the rad. Then as Matt says open the bleed points once running till no more air comes out.

Ends up making a bit of a mess but never fails.

I always pressure bleed mine by holding my hand on the expansion tank and blowing into the overflow whilst someone cracks off the bleed screws. Never struggled to do it that way.

The fans could be an airlock as mentioned or the blue plug may be away and not reading correctly, had this on my DT before.

Im not 100% on the idling issue. Have you tryed cleaning the ICV out? And do you keep the throttle cracked slightly with a little rubber cap on the throttle stop to avoid it stalling on quick throttle closing?

As you guys seem to really know your stuff, I am going to bring a new thermostat and coolant to Pugfest, would you kind gents give me a hand? I will provide the beer for when we are done Smile

I would try it myself, but I dont want to try it tomorrow evening, not have it bled up right, and it properly overheat on the way to Pugfest.
