A baffled sump for trackdays?

Not sure if the car requires one or not?

Cheers

Get an Accusump for peace of mind. Available them from Think Automotive, I'd say a 6 pint version would be ample. Worked on the Touring Cars so can't be bad.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ACCUSUMP-4-pint-race-rally-autograss-trackday-kitcar-sprint-motorsport-/170951978602?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27cd882e6a

It's only a 4 pinter, but would probably be fine, you wont be pulling massive G in a mildly modded 6.

I don't require an aftermarket one in my car and that's putting out over 450bhp and has been perfectly fine on the track. Yes

Do you have an oil pressure gauge you can see when cornering? I bet you it drops dangerously low on long corners and braking zones.

Yes, I do and no it doesn't drop like you mention. I was also surprised by this. Yes

there is, peugeot sport France do one, but its baffled as standard, so you gotta be running quite a lot of grip to need one I reckon.

Never heard it to be an issue on here - you'd have thought someone would have said if it had happened!

I've done a bunch of track days in mine, on a pretty good suspension setup with sticky tyres on a warm track and I've never run into any issues.

That said, on the old dturbo with the same suspension, same tyres but no baffled sump as standard, the oil pressure would drop by a couple of bar on a corner like Gerard's at mallory park.

would it not be easy enough to make the standard one more baffled to an engineer with the right tools/machines?
that accusump, it says manual operation, does that mean turn it on for the duration of the track day?

it looks like it works the same way as a central heating expansion vesel it has a precharged bladder which forces the oil out when the pumps not supplying

And the rest, an accusump is cheap insurance I reckon. And no, you shut the valve before you turn of the ignition, otherwise it pumps 4-6 pints of oil back into the sump making it impossible to accurately check your oil level. They do an electric valve too but I prefer the reliability of a manual gate valve.

The only issue with the accusump is if it's a trackdays/road car, you'll have to set the discharge pressure very low due to the low idle pressure, so it won't flow much oil under starvation situations, it's a way of proving some insurance, but it's not bulletproof by a long way.

I was looking at that earlier and it baffled me, i thought it looked like a standard sump,
Is it the other parts on the diagram that's fitted inside to make it more baffled?

Not at all, you leave it pressurised up during normal driving, just open the valve for when things get spicy.
