Anyone know where to get a set? All ive found so far is big sets for various engines which are well over £100 yet there seems to be plenty of other sets for other engines for about £20-30.

Problem is when ive done that before, what may fit nice and snug in the hole in the head, is still not wide enough for the hole in the cam lobe (at least i dont think. Its been well over a year since ive done a gti belt) so the cam can still move a bit

Fair enough. Annoyingly, cambelt was only done a year ago but the pump has started making some funny noises so got an original pug one. Just need to order a new belt and coolant and jobs a good'un!

I made a pair of cam pins from a couple of old thermostat housing studs, and just cut the thread off on the short end.

For the crank pulley I did the same with a shanked 8mm bolt, but I don't remember where that came from.

Thats a good idea, shame more dont do that, i have two valve stems cut to length for the cams and the shank of s bolt with no threads for the crank.

I used to use 8mm drill bit for the crank and 2x6mm bolts for the cams. I now have an array of different French timing pin sets at work inc tools to lock the flywheel easy etc. soooo much easier lol

Yep, I've got 2 x 6mm drill bits cut down, plus an 8mm bolt for the crank pulley. Plus I also have a known good crank pulley which I use when doing belts so I know the timing will be correct.
