205 kicking some ass...

If it wasn't for traffic would of been long gone. He was really giving it everything. Both on R888's at that point too

He was really giving it everything? Or he couldn't drive for s**t? He about destroyed his engine downshifting like that!

You look fast but in the right hands that car has far more than a pug ever will.

It'll be another case of got the cash but can't drive, so let buy a super fast car and get caned by a 205!

Your 205 looking looks well composedCool

Don't really agree on kicking his arse though!LOL
When you did get clear runs he was keeping with you on accelaration,he didn't have as much confidence as you in fast bends though.
Also he lets the revs drop too low for a bec in the corners, dropping out of the power range of engine.

He could drive but he said he was struggling to always find the right gears on the downshift. Yeah I would push through the bends harder but still. That was my first time at mallory.

Straight line speed I was a little quicker but he normally had a better run being not directly behind traffic.

Tbh it didn't even look like Ash was trying so I'd say he did kick some ass. That is one very fast 205 you can see that out of the slow corners it has amazing traction and the gap was kept constant on the straights Yes

If this track was empty i don't think he'd have seen the 205 again other than for being lapped LOL

Maybe he was pushing it abit hard, certainly was when I was behind but actually slower because of it.

This big question is it the car or the drivers ability? I would say your car is fast but not faster. I bet if you swapped car you would still have kicked his ass.

You say that but look at the stats

Indy
180hp/90lbft 450kg? + 2passengers

205
225hp/190lbft 750kg + 2 passengers

Both very focused track cars. One fwd, one rwd. Traction not an issue for either.

Just because it has a bike engine doesn't make it a super hero. Still only makes 180 hp and no torque.

Its the torque out of corners where you murder him Smile

Oh and he doesn't seem that confident in the rear end on long corners. Both hands on the wheel please LOL

Looks just like the normal concertina you get from following another car, I'd say your entry speed is what's giving you the big advantage, you seem to be carry a lot more speed on the way in to almost every corner, he's traction limited off the hairpin because he can't get it turned early enough to square the exit off like you were doing.

I've just sold an Indy after 1 year owner ship as the 205 on bodies I own is so much faster I a straight line and around corners. My Indy tops out at 120 and my 205 does that easily

Yeah, it takes serious horsepower to make an open wheel/exposed cage kitcar pull any sort of top speed, the buggy'll only just push 130 even with 350+bhp, a stock '6 will do that!

Due to airodynamics?
I met a guy with a fossil engined kit car he said that would only do 120 and he said exactly what you just said due to airodynamics been s**te

Aero drag from the wheels and exposed tubing, and in the case of the buggy, a bit of extra power sapped due to the tyres.

Open wheels alone are a MASSIVE aerodynamic disaster, never mind the exposed roll cage you find on 7 style kit cars. Those fenders will help, but not a huge amount.

Between gear changes I'd suggest taking his hand off the shifter, but otherwise he's enjoying himself, so who cares how good/bad his driving is.

Which is why F1 cars have a massive front splitter.

All depends on the gearbox ratios. Everyones different.

They may well be, but no amount of changing ratios is going to help with the old power vs drag issue.

edit:

Goes like the clappers and then hits a brick wall....

Duno! I was on 888's in that video. Thought I'd run them for a few sessions to get to know the track and make sure the dry sump was all working well.
Swapped them for the slicks at lunch then it p**sed down pulling out the pits!

But for the 5 wet laps I did on them they wernt any worse than 888's so I think dry potential is looking good. Will find out next weekend at Combe...
