I managed to find the manual rack figure, 4.1!PAS not as long as I thought, at 2.9 (actually is 3.2 for 5 speed racks) ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

So if its really 2.9 fitting a phase 2 cases rack won't make a massive difference will it?________________________________________ andrew315rawson@live.co.ukMoonstone phase 7 gti6 My Project thread: http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=119992&page=1 |

Yes it will, as its actually 3.2 if you take into account for the limitation.2.6 probably ends up at 2.2 with the gti6 ram fitted. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

would it be a good idea to fit a new ram at the same time or just leave it until it leaks?________________________________________ andrew315rawson@live.co.ukMoonstone phase 7 gti6 My Project thread: http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=119992&page=1 |

Carl said they were nla recently, it should be simple enough to make a collar to clamp on the r/h side of the pinion as a lock stop instead.I dont think the rams are a servicable item due to how they are assembled, though neither is an o.e damper and i'm sure phillip has taken one apart ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

If I buy a steering rack from an R reg VTS will it go straight on with the gti6 pipes ?Do I have to drop the subframe out and will the new rod ends I just bought for my gti6 rack fit or will I have to buy different ones. The lock to lock is around 2.4 turns for this rack is it not and am I correct to assume the ram will limit the turning circle regarding the gearbox on the 6? Thanks for your time |

Lots of threads on this but in case they have autodeleted, you need to put the 6-speed ram on the Xsara rack otherwise the LH wheel will catch the gearbox on right lock = MOT failure. The Haynes says you can change the rack by dropping the subframe down at the rear, without removing it entirely. Others on here are more expert than me as I got someone else to do it for me but plenty of people have done it DIY. I replaced all nuts and bolts etc too. You can use GTI-6 or VTS steering arms though there will be more thread exposed at the outer ends using the VTS arms. I've got the VTS arms, others have got GTI-6 ones, both work. If it is Phase 1 VTS then yes it is 2.4 turns lock to lock and yes the 306 pipes will fit straight on. I have a Phase 2 VTS 2.6 rack on my Rallye (I needed to use VTS pipes) and it is excellent. ________________________________________ Cherry Rallye SOLD |

Not sure if I'm allowed to resuscitate a thread like this. But I heard a rumour that XU 205 racks also fit in 306s. Has this ever been tried? The PAS 205s have a pretty quick ratio. |

You imply that all 205 racks might fit with "quaife 2.5 turn 205 pinion kit, will fit on a 306 if 306 trackrods are used". But I'm lazy and didn't want to have to onsell a rack that I bought that didn't fit. I'm also a little cautious because putting a PAS 205 rack in a 306 isn't something that I've seen done. Although where I live the 205 SI is a hell of a lot more common than the VTS. So yeah you got me, I am both lazy and poor. |

Not as far as I know ? Most of us who want quick racks use VTS Racks m8 In 2013 when this thread was written ..VTS -1 racks were the simplest to fit to a 6 because the pipe work went straight on and so did the stop ram to limit turning distance.... The VTS -2 pipe work didn’t Directly on Sadly VTS -1s are few and far between some 7 years later and fetch £250 upwards if you can find one I bought mine 6years ago I believe the NON PAS 205 rack Didn’t or doesn’t have the ram stop fitting facility and what it’s saying is you need that for a 6 gearbox otherwise if the wheel hits the body work on turning ....it’s a MOT failure in the UK ....but your not in the UK ? But people like Satchel and others fitted a alloy stop block into the 205 gearbox side only steering rack to stop it hitting anything...I’m sure that’s possible and VTS Racks have been fitted to 205s so why not 205 to 6 ???? |
