Having purchased some fibreglass door skins from mr.fordygti, it has dawned on me that I have no idea how to seperate the skins from the door frame so the frames can be reused.Has anyone done this before and can offer some advice, do's/dont's etc. I'm currently assuming its spot welded and bonded?

Also, recommendations for summin good to bond the frames back onto the skins with?

Sand away all the edges, and drill out the spot welds with a spot weld drill. It will take you a while...

2 part resin, bloody strong stuff, um sure even tiger seal.would do the job.

Any suggestions/examples for the resin? Manufacturer wise that is? Had a google but can't really find it in decent quantities...

Tiger seal, it will also be described as PU adhesive, body caulking or seam sealer.

Also, might be an idea to tack a framework of some kind to the top part of the door as I bet it will get a little flimsy with the skin off. Once you bond on the new skin, if the door is twisted or warped by the skin removal process it will stay that way. So jig it up somehow would be my suggestion.

I'll ask my brother, I don't think there was that much holding the skin on, it was mainly a folded edge and some sealant.

Pete, can you put a pic up of the skin you have please & how much we're they?
I'm not sure which Sikaflex to use, there didn't used to be a choice, they use this stuff to stick aeroplane wings together. Your local car body shop trade counter will point you in the right direction.

Yeah, will do when I get them.. have used sikaflex before for bonding windscreens in but didnt think it'd be the same stuff for metal and fiberglass...

I used tiger seal to bond carbon inner and outer door skins, it's very very strong!
