When I spoke to Rich about oil a while ago he actually admitted to me he adds about a pound on per bottle if it goes through him which I'm sure is just to cover the time of posting it, packaging and labelling it up.

I got it off amazon as it worked out about £17 a quartz I think. Took about 2-3weeks though as it came from America.

I've just been using 5w40 fully synthetic Morris lubricants oil. I used it before it was charged and still get it free now lol it seems to do the job fine on a low boost. I just change it every 6 months or few thousand miles. If I did more track use etc I'd switch to a race oil but unless the bottom end goes bang I don't see the need. If it goes bang it's just an excuse to go high boost but I don't think it will.

High boost I'd probably use redline or similar as it has a good rep with a lot of people I know running silly power in evos skylines silvias etc.

What you have to consider is Skylines, Supras, EVOs etc all have bearing surfaces designed from the off to cope with big power. The Peugeot never did, it's got a 5 bearing crank with comparatively narrow bearing surfaces so the oil has to work considerably harder and needs higher film strength. I'm not saying Royal Purple is overkill, or that there isn't something else out there up to the job, but I'd say for the peace of mind it's probably worth it.

Exactly this. Yes

So, if you order 6 quarts from him, he adds £6 for doing it. Hardly a lot is it? Why should he bother taking an order and then ensuring it gets to you safely etc for free? I think a £1 per bottle is perfectly reasonable.

The way Craig was going on about it, Rich had a yacht anchored in Monaco and was going to retire on the amount he makes on selling people Royal Purple...

Making money isn't the issue. I do, however, find that making out that rp is the only oil safe to use when there are plenty of other high quality oils out there

hopefully rich is marking it up by more than £1 as it isnt worth carrying the stock for that.

I don't think Craig was trying to insinuate that rich was trying to rip anyone off. If you stock a product then you are obviously going to promote that above any others.

RP could well be the best oil for the job, but that doesn't mean that another oil is not up to the task

He doesn't promote it, or suggest that it's the only thing to use, he has however put extensive research into suitable oils and came to the conclusion that he was happy to reccommend that particular brand. However it's a free world and people can and do use whatever they want.

I personally don't think it's about making money for Rich - I think he goes to the effort to supply the oil if people ask for it as a gesture and continued support with the supercharger conversion. Yes

As you point out, £1 a bottle profit isn't going to make you a rich man, nor is it probably worth the effort of stocking it at all, I think he just does it out of good customer service. Smile

I don't think he does stock it, he gets it as and when it's needed, and to be fair, I wouldn't want to sit on expensive stock like that on the off chance it will be needed, certainly not for a £1 profit a bottle anyway.

Yeah that's a fair point Jim, but again I don't think anyone on the forum would consider Rich to be a rip off merchant

This is not a dig as such at Rich, he has always been good to deal with and has got me out of trouble once when my charger tnesioner pulley failed, but I do have one comment.

In fairness, when you have owned a car for as long as I had, you can have comments good and bad about a lot of things.

Given how Rich behaved when I negotiated a better price for my charger direct from TTS, I would disagree! He contacted them directly and replied to me saying that the price that I was paying was wrong, even though it wasn't.

He has given a lot to this forum by making high quality parts, (the only exception bieng the first lightened flywheels) everything else (especially rollerbearing bushes which are awesome) has been top notch. Then again, I bet he has made more than a little on the side. I bet he has made thousands if not tens of thousands, which is fair enough but worth mentioning.

And I guess you just work for free do you Smegal? what a pointless point to make Thumbs down
+tts aren't official Rotrex dealers Lynx Are!
I have never repeat never found any garage with as good customer service as Nick and Rich at Lynx and yes I'm sure they make money but they don't take the p**s unlike 99% of the places i have used. I blew an engine on my return trip home from Lynx nothing to do with there workmanship due to my driving and dropping a valve 2 days later i had an engine in the car and was driving it home for an amount i wouldn't even want to post on here!

I don't think that's what he was saying Stan TBH.

Just my two pence but i agree a good quality well cooled oil will do the job just fine.

fair play ill concede that one my bad so they are the dealer not a distributor so how can there prices match? surely Tts want to make a little out of their dealers and then the dealers want to make a few £ from their customers?
I didn't want to cause an argument of sorts just you can't expect people to put many hours into products like Rich has without some form of benefit as I know nothing of yours and his problems and don't want to. Sorry

I'm a dealer, I buy hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of welding equipment and consumables a year, and I'd be cheesed off as well if I found my suppliers were giving my same prices to end users too. You aren't a garage Smegal, you don't buy as many chargers as Rich has/does, so why should you get a the same deal he does?
He's in it to make a profit, it's what makes the world go round and puts food on our tables, stop beating up on people trying to earn a living. If you don't like it develop your own SC system.

In future, I really would recommend 10W50 pro s. I personally think that Rich only sells and recommends rp as he has a market due to the lack of distributors and not for any tangible performance reasons. A well buit high boost engine isn't really all that highly strung and should be happy with a good oil.

I used rp once in my low boost and then used pro s for 40k charged and about 5k na.

Rich used 10W50 pro s and his engine spun a bearing during mapping.

The only reason he used Royal Purple oil is because it was recommended by Wayne Schofield as having a higher film strength and no bearing issues occured after that.

I am currently running my low boost on Royal Purple and have been happy with it since i charged it in 2010, But i'm now using the car every day and thinking would another oil be better during the winter months?
