So this thread is designed not to bash Carl and this is not personal, I am merely pointing out the facts of my dealings with Carl aka Mechanical repairs.

So it was a few years back that i bought a 306 rallye with a v6 transplant this was sold as mint and asked for a mint price (which i gave no quibble).
I went to view the car listened to advice and good feedback about carl and handed over a deposit even without driving the car (I had no reason not to trust him), so a few weeks later i picked up the car from Leicester and handed over the full amount and was an easy transaction for him and me (apart from waiting a few weeks for carl to make the car available to me) so i drove away about 5 mins through an alien town i broke down (no petrol) i tried ringing with no answer not even a call back, so i asked locals and walked to the petrol station to get petrol.

The car drove fine up until i got to Cardiff and stuck in traffic the car overheated so again tried ringing (no answer or call back) so the car had overheating issues which makes the car un-road worthy and useless to me.

So few more days passed and ever few days after parking the car up for the night the battery would drain (the reason behind leev6 bashing the car) so this problem was still there.

A few weeks passed and the front brake callipers seized causing the callipers to be rebuilt, also the garage couldn’t sort the overheating issue out and at that time i had no/little mechanical knowledge.

The car was sold to me under the intensions that i had a “full” respray and trusted him and believed him without asking for proof and a few members on here and me believe strongly that it was only a few panels that got sprayed, also the exhaust system he installed was rusted and the backbox fell off within a few weeks.

Then in my final drive in the car the clutch died not knowing at the time but now im aware it was the clutch slave cylinder. Also when pugplus bought the car he inspected the car much more than me and was shocked with the repairs and has now rectified the problems. But I didn’t throw my toys out the pram I put it down to poor judgement and took alot of life skills from this but it cost me £2000+.

Now I know recently I have let myself down by not giving carl a small fee of £20 for repairs on the T.D which I was unaware of, but feelings are still raw towards carl. I have offered to send the money and even a full refund as i can repair the wheel myself, Now I know carl has a good following but i think its healthy for the forum to see another side of this business man, again im embarrassed the way i acted recently but we all do silly things when emotion is high.

Without knowing the full facts, can I ask why it has surfaced now?

So it has festered for almost 3 years and for no reason you decide to post up now?

Obviously there is two sides to every story. I take it you're not attributing the clutch to him then?

You're not alone mate and I had the same frustration! My advice is just cut your losses and learn from the mistakes. In before the lock though LOL

Your not alone at all, recently i've spoke with many people that have had poor dealing, but feel scared to put anything in a negative light about carl.....

That reads to me as though PugPlus has repaired the car for you and "he" was shocked by the repair?

I have nothing against Carl at all but as I said to you the other day mate personally I would of taken that car to an independent inspection and taken legal action.

If it was a small amount off a private seller you can just take it as a lesson but you got done good and proper with that car by a trader which imo is not on.

Im sure I read somewhere that you have a degree of warrenty through statutory rights even if no warranty is given. Dont know if its true but needs looking into.

Just to add my twopenneth!

I did a deal with Carl taking his 206 gti 180 in p/x against my Astor 6.

We both did the deal unseen, trusted each other and i had every opportunity to look round and drive the 206 before i departed with the cash in my pocket and the 6 on his drive.

I took everything he said at face value, you could see the bits he'd replaced and i could see the bits that needed doing. No-one forced me to do a deal!

Yes ive managed to break a few things on it since i've had it, and i admit i'm a fussy bugger, but in my eyes, i didnt have to "pay" a lot for the car, its 9 years old with 130k on it so it's what I expected. I certainly havent felt any need to even speak to him about it, why would i?

I'm not a "Carl Lover" before anyone bums me for it, but the dealings ive had with him have been more thanfair.

To the OP, did you not have chance to look over it first, after all what you purchased was very obviously a much modified car, not an out of the box normal 6. I wouldve at least been over it with a fine toothcomb.

Rich (pugplus) was responsible for that one on the red rallye he sold that peetypug eventually bought after the owner rich sold it to cooked it.

Have Carl and pug plus swapped bodies perhaps? LOL

On a serious note though, Very surprised to hear this about Carl, who is known for his good service iand pride in his pugs.

I suppose like anything you have to go in with your sceutineering head on, I'd like to think he was busy at the time and generally unaware of the issues but you never know.

Inspecting stuff (the stuff you can get to obviously) is a good idea regardless of seller.

Just been alerted to this via a text message so I will be brief. (I am out with my daughter)

He has an issue with me as I bought some wheels from him, pro race, waited two weeks for them to arrive, they turned up with a bit of card board and some brown tape, basically was sold these as scuffy but round.

one was bent, I was quoted £40 to have it repaired, asked if he would meet me half way, this is the end result.

I put my hand on my heart and can say he never got in touch regards the rallye, I never knew he had any issues at all, the car is well known on here and advertised on my website so all is there to see, I was accused of not painting it(all of it anyway) and basically all these faults he said he had.

if this was the case I wouldn't rub salt in the wounds and buy from him would I, I find it very childish, the v6 you have bought now is half the car you bought from me, I spent £1000s and many hours on it.

Carl

50:50 in my experiences from cars I've broken and others I've seen.
Many on here have huge respect and trust. You don't get that without doing work correctly.

Not sure why this thread has surfaced now, why leave it so long? Unsure

But I have to say I've never had any problems with Carl. He looked after my '6 and has recently done work on my Megane, which I was more than happy with. Will definitely continue to be a regular customer.

As others have said though, whenever making a big purchase such as a car, I would always take the time to check things over. Just so that I was 100% happy about what I was getting myself into.

I had a similar issue with the very first car I bought, didn't check it over before doing the deal and the gearbox exploded on the way home! Ever since then I've always taken my time to check things out, just to be on the safe side.

I'm not saying it's your fault for not checking it, but just put it down to experience and move on. Yes, it cost you some money but then you weren't forced into the deal.
