Yeah it's not cheap, what are the VXR and RS costing new nowadays. I know that they are another step up again but they seem to be the top hot hatches like the GTi6 was at the time.

That's bloody expensive. Back then it was probably considered in the same way we consider the more powerful hatches now IE: Megane's Focus's and the like.
