What are you opinions on a Quaife ATB LSD on here?

And my biggest question, would it make the BE3 gearbox a bit stronger or weaker?

Imo , putting the power on to two wheels is more stress on the gearboxinternals, wheelspin would be better less stressfull on the box

What are the thoughts of the experts?

Im using the car as a funcar , i get a lot of satisfaction on taking on some twisties at speed etc..wont be doing trackdays or serious competition or anything like that.

Tips? comments? etc everything is welcome

go for a plate diff.....much better than the quaife..... Thumbs up

....mines a 3j driveline plate lsd.....very nice

With the power you're going to have available I think you are going to break boxes whatever diff you fit, but the Quaife won't suddenly lock both wheels up solid and will therefore put less shock load through the box than a fully locking plate diff will. Plate diffs perform better in almost every other respect though so that's what I'd go for.

I understand, problem is i can get one for a real good price, i know there are better diff around, but i really like the fit&forget thing and the price is very nice.

If it strenghtens things up a small bit im happy Wink

BTW what would i need new when installing a quaife? any new seals? tips?

If you're only looking at it for fast road, I would recommend the Quaife.

I have one in my car running 450bhp and I haven't found a need for anything different. Saying that, I'm running R888 tyres as well which makes a *catastrophic* difference. Even on track I find the car is over steering coming out of bends on power, which I have never experienced in a FWD car before, the grip levels given by both the tyres and the diff are perfect in my opinion. I bet with as much torque as you will have a quaife wont be much cop other than not grenading...

Aslong as both wheels stay on the road u will have no issues with a quafie. and even plate diff companys say that.

Stopping the box, clutch and driveshafts from failing will be more of a concern, all are weaker links than the diff.

Without going into any detail at all, I know if I spent 'X' on a ATB, Well anything more than £50.00 i'd be well and truly p**d off they are that bad in my eyes. The one in my old 306 is coming out and a std diff going back in

I'm going hopefully getting a diff made up for my ml5 gearbox, you should get one and join the batch of 5 orders I'd need to get the ball rolling.

Think your being a bit of a drama queen there miles but that's your opinion. Personally I've had both and quafie is just as good, plus it's maintaince free. All personal preference tho saying that.

Stan, what gearbox are you using?

My friend with the ZX and 330bhp used the BE3, and that got some hard beating and abuse... but it kept up doing it perfectly for over 14.000km

Lots of revlimiter , lots of highwaypulls..... torque was around 390-400 nm

I think if you spare the box a little bit, it could live for quite some mileage
