are you not using the standard one on the dash? or are you after something as a secondary one, eg more precise?

Use the one fitted in the car lol.

If you just want a separate gauge I'm sure I've seen some you can just run to the standard temp sender otherwise as rikky said on Ebay etc there are loads of gauges and they come with everything you need to make it work.

The reading isnt accurate, ive changed sensor, dials etc but with no luck, so in going to plumb my own gauge in, atleast i know it will be accurate

It is accurate as these gauges are quite rare these days in that they are "live" gauges. Yes

There must be an issue with your vehicle if you're finding it inaccurate.

What Stan said mate, I've had loads of 306's and I've never had one that doesn't appear to be accurate.

In what way do you think yours isn't?

    what sender have you used?

needs to be the 306 one to match the clocks, xsi is different iirc to a gti6, and different again to the v6.

If it's the 406 one then it probably won't be accurate. It needs to be correct sender for the car as Mei says. Yes

If after using the 306 one you still have issues I would look at the plumbing, might be its not right and you getting hotspots. I had this issue...
