Considering buying one as a run-around, and although I always see 50-55mpg banded about, is this the genuine MPG they achieve under normal use?

It depends what you mean by normal use. When I worked in Chester I would average around 55mpg, that was a 50 mile round trip mostly on the motorway. 35 mile round trip, mostly 60mph A roads, around 5 miles in town but free flowing traffic 30-40mph Thanks for replying  ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

they most certainly are an interference engine, however due to the inclination of the valves they tend to break rockers and or cams, they have hydraulic self adjusting tappets too.a little different to the cam straight on a solid tappet and shim arrangement found in the XUD and 8 valve XU, these do a similar thing if the belt breaks, snap the cam into 5 pieces! sling non broken bits and more often than not they will live on again without needing the head off. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

i wasnt so lucky with my 2001 3 door, tensioner collapsed during MOT emissions test, cam in 3 bits, broken rockers, and a totally f**ked piston. to be fair though i have seen a few that have have got away with afore mentioned damage and no need to remove the head |

I know it's not living for the 306 but consider an old Clio DCi. THe POS I bought unseen on ebay averages 65mpg+ without trying. |

My friend bought the red dTurbo from here around Christmas and my track car just wears a dTurbo badge. For amusement and I hoped it would reduce the 'interest' from certain people. ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

Haven't checked like-for-like prices but have you considered a Xsara HDi? A cheapo early noughties car will be half the tax of all but the very latest 306 HDi's. The Xsara can come with the 110 engine too, which will see off a LBSC 6. When you consider that the Xsara's biggest asset is its looks then you really can't go wrong. |
