Hi all

I'm using my 6 for "klubrally"(like 10 autosolo linked with roadstages in between) in Denmark and i need new tires for my 17" superleagerra.

So far, in my 106 rallye, I have used Maxsport RB5 but as the stages I’m on last between 2 and 3 min they are only at working temperature on the last half.

There for I want to use a good road tire instead as these have grip from the start and also are better in the wet.
I have narrowed the choice down to either Bridgestone RE002 or Michelin Pilot sport 3, both in 205/40-17 and to complete my inner debate I need your opinion Smile

If I have overlooked a smilair tyre choice please feel free to kick this in to the debate as well. Thumbs up

I know its not the tyres you mentioned. But I know a lot of people using toyo r1r tyres. Some people use them as wet tyres, and others using them as all weather tyres. They are even used as a control tyre in a rally championship in France i believe it is. May be another to consider that could possibly be cheaper too?

With the saxo we found the sidewalls to be very weak on the R1R, so went back to proper rally tyres.

AD08 is probably a good starting point, more like a road tyre than full on track tyre so would warm up quicker.

Pilot Sport 3s are very good, but nothing like as grippy as a track tyre when warm.

I'm aware of this but as I said, the are only warm when half way through the stage...

Regarding the R1R they dont come in 205/40-17 as fare as I now.

Yes, I was just suggesting that you'd still be quicker on the track tyres. Just that you might have to wait for them to turn on but the difference would be worth it.

What does everyone else use?

As welsh says Ad08's would be a good starting point, or if you're allowed, have the semi-slicks siped so they warm up faster (they'll wear faster too though).

Cheap option would be the Federal 595 RS-R's, although it looks like you'd need to go up to 215/40's

A lot if the Volvo track guys run the rsr. Like them but are having delaminating issues. Keep an eye on them.

Yes, I've heard of the odd heavier car with an issue, skylines too, possibly overheating the carcass, the MX-5/Caterham/Lotus guys never seem to have any problems.

Some of the cars in the Porsche carerra gt cup that's on with the touring cars run pilot sports 3s.
I've used them for a few year now, excellent tyre.
