Right, im looking at getting a V6, and im just wondering how it possible to pass an emissions test as the emissions will be so much higher compared to the 2.0.

Will a new working 2.0L cat be enough for the emission or should i look to get two cats welded into the exhaust system ? could i get a better cat ?

If you engine swap properly so recorded on log book then emissions rules will be for a v6

The one I've got isn't recorded on the log book yet as I havnt had it back but It's insured through greenlight for ~£350 fully comp with the engine swap declared. Oddly they seem to insure modified cars for less than if it was standard Crazy

They probably go by the insurance group the donor car was.

How much will it affect the tax if the emissions are higher then? Does the same apply to supercharged cars since the emissions are through the roof?

I just checked Autodata, 100 ppm HC and 0.3% CO for both engines.

All down to the mapper, if he's a lazy bugger, probably not.

I know I will do my best to get a cornish map, and probably use even less fuel than standard.

i heard that tuned n/a RS engines (within reason) actually give better mpg on a run.

yep, I went down to Saltash with my mate DCC and used less fuel on the way back on bodies than it did on the run down on standard inlet, even with a few warp 5 tunnel runs.

One of Sandy's highest spec TU5 engines returned about 42 mpg IIRC on a run back from mapping, that's a 230 Dyno bhp 225 ish in car BHP from a true 1600.

No need to worry or have a CAT from what I have been told, as the engine was not fitted originally the emission test will default on to a 3.5% CO when you change the engine type on the emissions recorder

Pretty sure that's not the case.

From testers guide:

Vehicles Fitted with a differnt engine
Test according to which is older, engine or vehicle.
e.g. A 1995 car fitted with a 1991 engine (of whatever make), test to 1991 standards for emission purposes.
Note: The onus is on the vehicle presenter
to prove engine age.

how exactly would we prove the age? most testers i know would tell you to feck off if you presented them with paperwork/engine numbers from a donor car. then again there are testers who are willing to shove the lambda probe up another cars exhaust pipe to get a pass

It's there in black and white in the testers manual,so they couldn't refuse if you've got the required proofThumbs up
If they did just ask them for the VOSA number for complaints and they would soon change there tune I'm sureYes

Yeah usually, unless your building a kit car like my m8 did last year using a 1989 Uno TurboIE eng,he had some trouble getting paperwork to prove the age of that eng for IVA testThumbs down

Would the engines V5 be enough, its just the XU10 engine isnt the best at keeping the engine code and a V5 could be any engine.
