Hi all,

Just bought a GTI6 and its too loud for my liking. After reading the forum, the Jetex seems to be the quietest kit available.

So, looking at this kit on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-306-Hatch-2-0-XSi-XS-GTi-Rallye-S-Steel-Jetex-Half-System-10-H5-93-On-/110833233568?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19ce2ceea0#shId

Is that everything required? If I buy that and take it to my garage that will be all they need? I know nothing about such things.

Thanks for your help.

After a bit of reading it seems Peugeot actually did really well with the stock exhaust, and its a pain for me getting a Jetex posted all the way from UK, so I'm thinking of just going stock.

I have no idea what has been done to the exhaust to make it so loud. I have taken a photo and videos below, are you guys able to tell me what is missing or non-standard?

Just wondering whether I need to buy a full stock exhaust or just certain parts.

lol, you have two cherrybomb centre silencers and no cat LOL

also an aftermarket rear silencer, I would replace all of it with o.e if you can.

posting is not an issue tbh, posting 10 miles is as much effort as 10k miles., just costs more LOL

Nothing is stock on the exhaust,so don't blame Pug!!!LOL

Could be a sports cat at the front, but the reason its loud is due to it being a aftermarket custom made exhaustThumbs up

This forum was so worth the NZ$8.90!

Cheers guys. I will order a full stock exhaust and promise a sound comparison video.

2nd hand be ok or need to go new? Other thread said 2nd hand cat rest new? Do I need the cat? Don't think it's a legal requirement in NZ, but I don't want to upset peugeots engineers fine tuning.

A catalyst isn't a legal requirement in the UK either, but you're extremely unlikely to pass an emissions test without one, and you could be issued with a defective vehicle notice. In any case, it's not the actual act of running without a catalyst that is illegal here. It may be the same in NZ? I'm sure you must have some sort of emissions test?

Yes they do have an emissions test in nz, similar rules to uk. Except that the test is every 6months instead of annually.

The car will work fine without the cat many on here have de-cats on track cars. The reason for suggesting 2nd hand cat is a new one is expensive. I wouldn't bother with 2nd hand exhaust though unless it is near new. A new OE exhaust from a dealer here will cost you about nz$600 without the freight. But it is a very good exhaust which will last a long time.

As i said in another thread the dealer I get my bits from already sends stuff to a customer in nz so he might be able to advise the best way to get it there. If a nz dealer will do close to the uk dealer price you might as well get it from there, but nz dealers in my experience are much more expensive. The exchange rate is fantastic for you now to get stuff from uk so I'd price it up and see what is the best.

I might be wrong but is that axle stand underneath the plastic sill cover? If so you might have pushed in the metal sill underneath which will not be obvious as the plastic will bounce back. I recently found such damage on my car from a previous owner under the sill covers see my project thread for a pic.

Jacking the car on the sill should only be done using the 4 reinforced jacking points. Jacking anywhere else on the sill or on the floor will cause damage. I know this as i have spent time and money fixing such damage on my car caused before my ownership.

I only jack or support my car on the front subframe, rear axle tube and 4 sill jacking points, as stated in the Haynes manual. Might be worth getting a Haynes 306 manual as, although it it is lacking in some ways and doesn't cover the gti6 engine specifically, it does have general info in the 306 and useful hints for working on cars if you are new to it. They are available in nz or cheaply on eBay.

Or go to ECP, who carry the OEM manufacturers parts
