I've pulled the sideskirts off and luckily as I did since I found a small patch of rust starting on the rear quarter panel, I would advise anyone who hasn't removed theirs to have a go at removing theirs to see what is hiding under there!

Back to the point anyway, since I'm going to be removing the skirts again in the future what is the best way to fix the skirts back on. Would a plastic scrivet be strong enough? I don't want to attempt it for them only to fall off and total my skirts into the road.

Did anyone make any progress on finding the clips that hold the skirts on, I know that some of them went NLA with Pug (the stick on ones IIRC) but does anyone have the parts number for all the clips that are used to hold the skirts on?

Riv-nuts are by far the best for this if you want to be able to remove easilyYes

I re-riveted mine on as per OE with alloy pop-rivets,as I've got no plans to ever remove them and TBH the alloy rivets are easy to drill out anywayWink

Plastic scrivets won't be strong enough IMONo

I was looking into fitting rivnuts, just need a very flush headed bolt to hold the sill on. They are easy enough unless they don't set fully and then spin in the hole, it happened on a few that I removed from my 6 and I had to grind the heads off!

At Kev's suggestion I've decided to use rivnuts. I too want to be able to remove the skirts in future. The holes in the sills are 6mm so by my measurements the 6mm external diameter rivnuts that take M4 bolts will be the ones I'll use, and I'll use stainless for minimal corrosion probs and the ribbed ones to minimise the turning-in-the-hole problem. . I'll use M4 bolts with a big head to spread the load as the skirt holes are slotted to allow for fit.

Before I put the rivnuts in I'm going to use the 6mm holes to spray in Dynax S50 cavity wax. I'll also spray clear Dynax UC on the exterior of the sill before I put the skirts on.

That way I can remove them every couple of years to hose the salty mud out.

For a rivnut tool the pop rivet looking ones are pants appparently. But I've seen on the tube of you that if you get a flat steel plate and drill the bolt-sized hole through it you can use a long bolt and nut to set up the rivnuts rather than paying £20 - £100 for a tool.

Don't quote me on the detail of any of this, my calculations could be wrong!

Well I drilled them out with a 6mm nut so I'll be putting 6mm back in! I was looking at putting some cavity wax in since the sill on the passenger side has some rust forming on the rear that will have to be cut out, other than that the bodywork is fine.

As I was saying to Coskev, it's going to have to be a small head height wise to fit under the door seal.
