Hi everyone,

Some of you may remember this thread:
http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=153833

I've had a go at fixing the damage done myself, and it pains me to admit I've done a crap job. I hit the damage out with a hammer and dolly kit, got it lined up to what I thought was an okay but not perfect standard, coated it in hammerite smooth red to keep the rust away, and put everything back on. The slam panel was replaced with a straight one.

Unfortunately, the front bumper is misaligned to the point that it is far too close to the front right wheel. I could get the slam planel mountings in a location reasonably close to being good enough (the slam panel went on with a bit of persuasion), but I just can't get the bumper mount in the right place.

Is there anybody who thinks that they would be able to fix this? I'm not TOO bothered about panel gaps, as long as the car is safe and roadworthy etc.

The car is located on my driveway in Oxford, and is SORN'd. If anybody does think that they could fix this sometime soon, could they please get in touch? I'm happy to discuss costs/financial reimbursement etc. via PM or over the phone and of course an unlimited supply of tea and biscuits would be supplied.

I am aware that there are other 306s out there but I really, really love this car and it would break my heart if it went for scrap!

Thank you for reading,

Luke

Thanks for the tip! I'll wait a bit and see if he sees this and if not I'll contact him.

I think I might have met him the other week actually.

why not update the thread with how far youve got.

the bumper mounting looks like it needs pulling out and forwards, have you done that?

I've been meaning to but I'm at my parents house in Germany until wednesday night, so I can't go and take any pictures unfortunately. I will do so when I get back, I was hoping to find someone who might be interested while I'm away for a few days to speed things up though as the car's been off the road for 2 and a half months now.

I have hit the back the section circled in yellow and got it vaguely straight, but it made the metal a bit more filmsy and persuading the slam panel to fit back on has probably bent it again. I didn't get it perfect anyway.

As for the bumper mount, it hasn't really moved much from where it is in this picture. I did knock it out a bit but moving it proved difficult, and a trial fit of the bumper made it seem as though it lined up so I put everything back on. I did then have to bend it a bit to get the washer bottle to fit though.

As the car currently stands, I've put it completely back together again but the bumper doesn't line up and I refitted the bent wing which probably isn't doing wonders for lining everything up either. I have a straight wing that's the wrong colour that I'd put on instead to get things to line up properly.

The bumper mount clearly does need to move, but I didn't seem to be very good at doing so when I first tried, I'm hoping that someone could come along and line that, and the wing mounts and the front section back up for me so I could put everything back on.

yup, fit the straight wing, have a look at the seam under the chassis leg above the wheel, if its kinked you'll need to straighten the leg a bit, easy enough DIY if you can get hold of a porta power or a big trolley jack.

you can see the kink by my finger and the bumper mount bent back.

Thanks a lot, I'll look at the seam when I get back. I have a smallish trolley jack but that's it really.

I'd still be interested if anyone who knows what they're doing wants to do me a huge favour & earn a bit of money would like to come and do all of this in probably no more than an afternoon. It was written off by the insurance so I got all my money back, if I gave someone a bit of money to sort this I'd still break even even in the very worst case. It's getting towards exams time and I'd rather just have this back on the road without the headache. Thumbs up
