So, my boss decided he's had enough of working and is jacking it in about 8 years early to take early retirement. Most of the office went for the promotion it seems, and yesterday they came back to me and offered me the job. So at about 11.30 yesterday morning I was like this:



Can't believe it, still in a bit of a state of shock. Entering the ranks of the management feels a bit like a secret society already sorta like the stonecutters. Only downside is i think that means the HDi is going to have to go! I'll be expected to have a car for company business I think, not exactly a downside if i get an allowance like but still it'll be like losing a limb after 8 years!

Awesome start to the weekend, shame the weather is s**t!: lol

Thanks guys, nice to have some good news, really turning out to be a good year so far.

The problem with the TVR is the company (funded) vehicle is that it has to have 4 doors my boss reckons. Damn! Laugh

As for the collection of cars, i'm running out of places to park them. Laugh

I'm actually tempted to just give it to my brother as he's had a bit of a rough time lately. It wants for nothing so I know it'll serve him well.

Congrats mate, does this mean the overseas work will now stop and you will have a lacky to do those trips? Test drive one of those mercs first, I feel they drive a bit naff compared to the same spec 5 series.

The long term ones almost certainly yes, though that's a shame too as you could make a f**k-ton of money in a short space of time. Laugh We have a whole temporary overseas contract arrangement which upliftsyour base salary with all sorts of perks when on international business.

Any major probs I might get to go though. Ninja

Going to have to get my arse into gear and move to Rugby too!

Have driven a manual one but not a tiptronic one. Unsure if i'll get on with tiptronic but it's the only choice you have in the bigger diesel saloons (E220 is manual, E350 is Tip only). Mercedes are about to launch a new one too, it's on the website already and looks even better, so might get a stop-gap like an A4 until some good used examples come around.

Looked at Passat CC's too but not sure about them.

I don't want an auto, that's the point. I don't enjoy driving autos, but unsure if I could live with a semi-auto or it would annoy me too. I'd have an E350 manual in half a heartbeat, but Audi BMW and Mercedes all drop the manual box for the 3 litre + diesels. Had also entertained a 220 with a remap as they're quite frugal and go to 205bhp with a map. I'll have to find a 220 with twin rear pipes. Ninja

Might pop down Peterborough Merc and have a test drive then.

I do commute to Rugby but it's an easy drive, only takes an hour each way. It's why i've kept the HDi as the mileage means nothing on it.

The 7g box on the auto is very nice, most come with a paddle shift option, if they don't then you can factory order one with it.

And I was of the same option, having driven ford, Peugeot and Volvo auto boxes I wasn't impressed, the difference between them and the. Mercedes one is light years, I would even consider buying something line the c250 coupe for the wife in an auto box

That may be the case, but i'd still rather have the pedal in my case. Jaguar don't even do a manual box in the XF which is a shame, as I quite like them.

Can see me having a stop-gap so as not to rush the decision. Still likely to be a Merc I would think, but sadly the Coupes are out being only 2 door, nice as they are. I see the new one brings back the E250 but it's auto only, fail merchants.
