While driving home today i pulled out of a junction, accelerated: after 3000 rpm the car started to judder and would not accelerate smoothly, changing up a gear allowed an increase in speed but again after about 3k it judders.

it does it in all gears as far a i can tell, and when stationary revving over 3k it produces the same thing - almost like a mis or backfire.

i'm not 100% with engines - any ideas on what it may be?

many thanks in advance

Jon

Possibly a dodgy MAP sensor.

Try this test:

With the engine idling, unplug the MAP sensor. The engine should die out straight away. If it doesn't then the MAP sensor is not working correctly.

Sounds like its running on three. Check plugs for signs of one being different from the others. Coil packs, plugs or injectors would be the first culprits to check.

How long does it have to run on 3 for before the eml comes on does anyone know? I've still got an issue with mine where it misses at very light throttle.... Never had an eml come on...

If it was running on 3 then the OP would have the issue all the way from idle, not just after 3,000rpm unless it is the beginnings of a coil pack starting to break down possibly.

So I get a miss only in the top inch of throttle at anything above 2k or so. It's jerky etc and throttle response is rubbish until you push past that point. And when coming off the throttle at high rpms inside that 1nch of pedal it sounds like its missing too... Never had an issue with the eml, but does that sound like a coilpack?

Sorry to hikack the thread, but I think we're experiencing simiar issues here!

It does sound like the early stages of a coil pack breaking down to be honest...

Take the spark plugs out and see if one looks any different to the rest, this could pinpoint which coil is in trouble.
