anyone here used sounds of silence in Falkirk for mapping? They quoted me £400 for a complete setup which i thought

was reasonable

thats my biggest problem, just about everyone who knows these engines are far away from Edinburgh

so far theres AVA in glasgow who have mapped a few turbo'd pugs, Sounds of Silence-they have done

a few big power XU's and then theres Peugeot ecosse, although ive heard quite a few horror stories

about their mapping.

SOS are practically next door to me so i'm thinking, when the time eventually comes then they may

be the people to sort me out

Didnt SOS do that silly 205 turbo with some ridiculous amount of power
Gti6 engine.
Probably not a bad choice really...

eliot-yes they built that car, 440 bhp, i have been round the track and its f**kin mental! but i seem to

remember (through reading their build thread) that AVA did the mapping, i was speaking to one

of SOS's workers/staff today who was running in a soon to be 500bhp fiesta, he seems to know his

stuff

I contacted Sitech racing who are based very close to me about mapping, the chap i spoke to was very

helpful and went through various possible specs in great detail, is willing to map pretty much any ecu

i discussed the Pectel ecu that i'm almost about to buy and he told me not to bother with it as if there

were to be any faults with it then it could be very costly to fix. The guy recommended the omex 600

or even one of the newer megasquirt units - something which he has a lot of experience with

Whats more, assuming the wiring and sensors are right, quoted me £50 per hour and 4-5 hours

to map it from start to finish, plus leave the car overnight so he can fine tune the cold start.

AVA want ~£500 to map
SOS £400
Sitech ~£250

250 seemed a bit cheap to me but alot of people who race at knockhill seem to rate Sitech alot

I wouldn't worry too much about who knows these engine's, they are basic 2 litre NA engines and anyone who claims to be a 'mapper ' should be able to do the job. Sure mapping might get complicated on vtec Turbo stuff but not on gti6 engines. Match the amount of fuel going in to the amount of air going in and get the advance right and that's it really. Hardest part is indeed setting the cold start right! The rest is just time consuming to get it right.

Mapping by numbers, versus creating proper dynamic maps that drive well and keep the engine clean and performing well over time, are two very different things. Knowing an engine type is a big advantage (as is a good relationship with the ECU type); you start at a higher level and can achieve alot more in the time available.
Good mapping is not a given and standards vary hugely. Unfortunately, most people spend quite alot of money on mediocre work in this area and there really are very few people mapping that really, really do a good job.

Seems funny to see "Junior member" under your forum name Sandy when really it should be Seasoned Uber Pro of something like that!

(I know it's based on post count not the persons skill level before anyone says, just looks amusing to me that's all)
